On a recent call, Renown Health requested a balloon pump transfer for a patient being transported to SFO. A balloon pump transfer is a device that allows the heart to pump more blood in rhythm with the patient's heartbeat; administering one is rare and highly complex. Amanda T., Care Flight Nurse, stepped in to accompany the transport, using her extensive experience to expertly manage the balloon pump. Her dedication ensured the transport was completed successfully, preventing the need for outside assistance and keeping care within our region. Thank you to Amanda and the rest of the team for demonstrating outstanding teamwork and collaboration. 👏🏻

Care is much more than responding to a call. Care is ensuring each patient feels the support of our crews. Care is working with our co-response partners to achieve the best patient outcomes. Recently, a TIP of Northern Nevada, Inc. Volunteer joined Matt C. and Savannah D. while on call. The Volunteer shared how these team members exemplified compassionate care and great work ethic. “I have decades of experience with multi-generational employees. The character and work ethic I witnessed in Savannah and Matthew were admirable. I was impressed on every call.” - TIP of Northern Nevada, Inc. Volunteer who recently rode along with the crew. During their ride-along, the Volunteer witnessed Matt C. and Savannah D. compassionately encouraging a hesitant 101-year-old patient who had fallen to accept transport to the hospital. They also observed the crew hike 1.5 miles into the hills to reach a cardiac arrest patient, coordinating with Care Flight and the HASTY Team to ensure safe transport. These two providers have shown that excellent care requires clinical skill and empathy for others. Thank you, Matt C. and Savannah D., for your dedication to our patients!

A patient called 9-1-1; she'd fallen and broken her wheelchair. Though the patient was uninjured, her broken wheelchair wouldn't allow her to be mobile. Taylor M. and Joshua F. knew there weren't many options to help the patient aside from the Emergency Room. Together, they consulted CARE Chest of Sierra Nevada, a community resource that provides medical resources to individuals free of charge, who provided the patient with a new wheelchair. They then contacted Downtown Reno Partnership to help bring the patient to Our Place, where a case manager could arrange to get the wheelchair. Care is so much more than a response or a transport, and we're immensely grateful to our team and community for providing these vital resources.

The stork has paid REMSA Health another visit 👶🏻 Hannah K., a dispatcher at REMSA Health, sent Chris W., a paramedic, and Kent H., an EMT, to a call involving a patient experiencing imminent childbirth. Hannah K. stayed on the phone with the patient, providing descriptive steps on what to do while awaiting the crew's arrival. Once the team arrived on site, they helped safely deliver the baby into the world and ensured the mother was cared for. Please join us in congratulating these team members for receiving their stork pins. For Hannah K., this is the fifth time she's assisted in safely delivering a baby. 💙

#DYK we have four helicopter bases across northern Nevada and northeastern California with a functional coverage area of approximately 150 miles? This capability allows us to transport patients to the places best suited for their medical needs like Sacramento, Oakland, San Francisco and Palo Alto. Due to the unique geographical terrain and environmental conditions in Care Flight’s service area, Care Flight is designated as a Helicopter First Responder, allowing patient care to begin without delay. #DYK, for those looking to expand their skills in EMS, we offer this opportunity through our Paramedic Program? This program has an impressive track record of producing highly competent, entry-level paramedics who provide pre-hospital care in various settings. As part of the program, students practice their skills in mock scenarios to enhance their critical thinking in stressful situations. Recently, our paramedic class practiced environmental scenarios in difficult-to-reach locations. To learn more about our Paramedic Program, click here: https://bit.ly/30DsTLv

Our partnership with the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine provides our paramedics with an invaluable hands-on learning experience. Recently, our team had the rare opportunity to refine their skills using donor cadavers—an experience that offers an unmatched level of realism compared to traditional training methods. By working with real tissue, muscle, and anatomy, our medics were able to practice critical procedures like intubation, intraosseous (I/O) access, surgical cricothyrotomy, and needle decompression in the most authentic way possible. These high-stakes, low-frequency procedures require precision and confidence, and opportunities like this help ensure our team is prepared when every second counts. We are grateful to the UNR School of Medicine for their outstanding partnership and commitment to advancing emergency medical education.

James M. recently conducted his first drug-assisted intubation (DAI) on a patient after recently being cleared as a paramedic. DAI is a procedure paramedics administer when a patient's airway is compromised. James M. moved with professionalism and demonstrated cohesiveness with team members and provided the patient with excellent care. 👏🏻 Congratulations, James M., on this successful patient outcome as a new paramedic. 💙
