It's day 3 of our Earth Day countdown #climateawareness series. Let’s talk #fossilfuels — and why they’re such a big deal. #Coal, #oil, and #gas built the modern world — but they’re also breaking it. Burning fossil fuels is the #1 cause of #climatechange. Period. Here’s how it works: #Fossilfuels release gases that trap heat in our atmosphere. That trapped heat is what's making #droughts worse, storms stronger, and weather less predictable. It’s also driving up food prices, fueling wildfires, and making it harder to live in places like #PineRidge — where homes are already struggling to stay warm in winter and cool in summer. Over 75% of all #climatepollution comes from fossil fuels. That stat comes from the United Nations. It’s not politics — it’s physics. And the people paying the highest price? #Native and rural communities, where energy systems are outdated and costs are already sky-high. That’s why Red Cloud Renewable is doing something about it — right here, right now. We’re building #solar , training local workers, and fighting for a future where our people aren’t left behind. Because climate change isn’t some far-off threat. It’s happening. It’s personal. And we’re not waiting for someone else to save us. #ThereisnoPlanetB. We’ll keep breaking it down. One fact at a time. One day at a time. Visit us at www.redcloudrenewable.org Sign up for our newsletter, follow our journey, share with your friends and family, and support us in any way you can. About us
Since 2002, Henry Red Cloud has been working to bring energy sovereignty to his community on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota with the dream of creating a new generation of Solar Warriors. Henry is a fifth generation direct descendant of the infamous Chief Red Cloud (Mahpiya Luta), one of the most renowned American Indian leaders in history, and is dedicated to seeing the vision of his ancestors fulfilled by ushering in a revival of the Lakota people and all Native Americans within seven generations of his great-great-great grandfather. Red Cloud Renewable has helped provide field training and professional certifications to over a thousand individuals from over 70 tribes. Our work is focused within three strategic pillars: Solar Installation Native American students learn about the benefits of solar energy, including reducing electricity bills, solar powered water pumps for gardens, and the potential for energy independence by going “off the grid.” Home Weatherization An all-Native crew runs “The Native to Native Energy Sovereignty” Weatherization program, which is grant-funded by the U.S. Department of Energy. The crew does energy assessments and building retrofits on the reservation, helping create safe, healthy homes. Sustainable Home Building Completed in conjunction with our partners at "In Our Hands," the “Lakota Thiyuha Project” offers innovative housing that is affordable, sustainably built, using cellular concrete and locally harvested lumber, and easy to regulate in extreme temperatures. This project not only helps alleviate stresses related to the housing crisis in our community, but also adds to our mission of workforce development as we hire only Natives for construction projects.

Welcome to Day 2 of our 16-day #climateawareness journey leading up to #EarthDay. At Red Cloud Renewable, we’re cutting through the noise and sharing real facts about #climatechange — how it works, how it’s already affecting people on the ground, especially in #Native and rural communities, and why it matters to all of us. Let’s talk about temperature — and why even a few degrees can change everything. At the peak of the last Ice Age, the Earth was only about 5°C colder than it is today. That small shift was enough to freeze over much of North America, bury parts of the world under ice sheets, and completely reshape life on Earth. Now, we’re heading the other direction. Today, Earth’s average temperature is already about 1.2°C (2°F) warmer than it was before the industrial era — and if we stay on this path, we could hit 2°C or more in just a few decades. That might not sound like much, but when you realize that just 5°C made an Ice Age, you understand how serious this is. And in Native and rural communities, where access to resources and emergency infrastructure is limited, extreme temperatures hit harder and recovery takes longer. These aren't distant problems — they're already showing up in the form of droughts, unstable weather, and rising energy costs. We’ll keep breaking it down. One fact at a time. One day at a time. In 2025, there’s more #misinformation about #climatechange than ever — and that confusion is hurting real people. Here at Red Cloud Renewable, we believe everyone deserves clear, honest answers about what’s happening to our planet. That’s why we’re launching a 16-day #climateawareness series leading up to Earth Day. Every weekday, we’ll break down real #climateissues using simple facts from trusted, verified sources — what’s actually happening, how it affects everyday people (especially in Native and rural communities), and what we can all do about it. So follow along, share with your people, and let’s protect our only home — because There is no Planet B. Yes, the weather really is getting worse — and we’ve got the receipts. In the U.S. alone, we now average twice as many billion-dollar weather disasters per year than we did in the 1980s. That stat comes from #NOAA — the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration — one of the most trusted science agencies in the country. NOAA tracks weather, oceans, and climate patterns using real-time data, satellites, and decades of research. They don’t play politics — they deal in facts. And the #facts are clear: the #climate is changing fast, and it’s hitting communities like ours the hardest. That’s why we do what we do here at Red Cloud Renewable. From #solarpower to #weatherization to #workforcetraining, we’re building real solutions that make our homes stronger, our people safer, and our future more sustainable — right here on #PineRidge and beyond. Because when climate disasters strike, Native and rural communities are often the last to get resources and Visit us at https://lnkd.in/eYRigeMQ. 🌞 A Powerful Step Toward Energy Sovereignty 🌞 Yesterday, our all-Lakota solar crew completed a ground-mounted solar array install that will power the three sustainable dome homes we built for families in the Wakpamni District of Pine Ridge Reservation. 💪🏽🏠⚡ This isn't just about solar panels. This is about reclaiming power — literally and spiritually. This is about building with purpose, healing through sustainability, and proving that Indigenous-led solutions are the future. At the heart of this project is Marie Kills Warrior, our Solar Technologies Manager. Marie has led this project with strength, grace, and unwavering commitment. She is a force. A leader. A true warrior. 🌾🔥 Her leadership doesn’t just light up homes — it lights the way for the next generation of Native solar professionals. To our crew: you are the backbone of this movement. You are helping build a better future, one panel, one wire, one home at a time. We are so proud of the work you've done — and more importantly, the way you've done it: with heart, with honor, and with the spirit of your ancestors guiding each step. 💛 If you believe in this work — if it moved you even a little — please like, share, and donate to help us keep building. Your support helps us create jobs, train Native workers, and bring clean, renewable energy to families who need it most. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/e8SMNBtp #EnergySovereignty #IndigenousLed #SustainableFuture #RedCloudRenewable #LakotaSolarWarriors #PineRidge #BuildTheChange
