  • STEM Night at the Movies! Northshore Elementary rolled out the red carpet for an unforgettable STEM Night at the Movies on April 3rd! With a theme inspired by kids' favorite films, students explored 18 hands-on STEM activities that brought movie magic to life. Some fan-favorite activities included: Designing a zip line for Buzz Lightyear to zoom across using a propeller. Watching a clip from Up and then creating cloud identification viewers. Engineering a paper plane inspired by Bright Bill from Wild Robot. Here are some of the Tech & Robotics Highlights: Coding with Anna & Elsa (Frozen)—students programmed their way to building a snowman. Star Wars Sphero Maze — navigating Sphero robots through a maze Wall-E & VEX Robotics —demonstrations from Vex Go Robotics A huge shoutout to Michelle Herrington for organizing this amazing event and to all the incredible teachers, NWR High School students, parents, and others who volunteered their time. Over 300 people enjoyed a night of learning, creativity, and fun! RCSD is grateful for these exceptional volunteers and teachers. #ReachingSuccessTogether

  • Yesterday, the 2025 RCSD High School Academic Competition took place at the District Office, where student teams put their knowledge to the test in science, art, history, and pop culture. After a day of intense matchups, we have our winners: 🥇 1st Place: Northwest Rankin High School (Coach: Chase Douglas) 🥈 2nd Place: Brandon High School (Coaches: Justin Eaves & Katianne Wheeler) A huge congratulations to these students for their hard work, quick thinking, and dedication to academic excellence.   • April 2 was an incredible day at the 2025 RCSD Academic Competition, where 9 middle school teams from 5 schools went head-to-head in a fast-paced battle of trivia knowledge and teamwork. After 10 rounds and 17 thrilling games, the results are in: 1st Place: Northwest Rankin Middle School (Coach: Kyra Francois) 2nd Place: Brandon Middle School (Coaches: Kerry Arender & Collette Power) We’re so proud of all the students who represented their schools.   • Rankin County Schools will have a delayed start due to severe weather in our area during bus routes and student drop offs today, Monday, March 31, 2025. Elementary schools will begin at 9:00 AM. and middle and high schools will begin at 9:30 AM. Bus routes will begin at 8:00 AM. Elementary car riders will begin drop off at 8:40 AM and middle/high schools at 9:00 AM. If anything changes, you will be notified via ParentSquare.
