When it comes to the exterior building envelope, keeping water out is of utmost importance. Water is a very powerful element, in that it will find the path of least resistance. It is so powerful that it carved Yosemite Valley over millions of years. Imagine the havoc that it can wreak upon a structure. It can cause mold, it can corrode steel, it can cause dry rot, and overall a great deal of damage. All of which can lead to potential lawsuits, vacated properties, and revenue loss. Keeping water and moisture out, is essential to keeping residents in place and businesses open. RAM Independent is a diverse manufacturer’s representative firm whose objective is to work with design professionals to develop innovative solutions to keep water and moisture out of structures. We have a vast array of systems to encompass the entire building envelope from below grade up to the roof. With over 35 years of industry experience, RAM Independent represents some of the most highly specified and proven systems in the industry. Our diverse portfolio includes Carlisle/CCW, CIM, Life Specialty Coatings, AC Tech, Polycoat, and DeNeef, with more to come soon to a theater near you.

March Live AIA Webinar Schedule Henry, a Carlisle Company offers live AIA-accredited webinars with industry leading publications, Architectural Record, and Building Enclosure. The first two live AIA webinars will be conducted in March. Building Envelope Systems: Tie-ins, Transitions, and Continuity Course Description: This presentation examines the critical nature of tie-ins, transitions and continuity throughout the building envelope. These critical areas may only represent 1% of the building envelope, but it is said that 99% of building leaks occur as a result of incompatibility, adhesion loss, or lack of awareness when transitioning from one building envelope system to another. This in-depth review will describe common types of compatibility, best practice installations, and how to avoid costly building design and construction oversights. This presentation is a one-hour discussion and qualifies for continuing education credit as recognized by the American Institute of Architects as follows: Learning unit(s): 1 LU/HSW Lunch & Learn #: BESWP106w-HNRY Provider Number: K031 Date: Thursday, March 27, 2025 Time: 1:00 pm CST / 2:00 pm EST Competitive, Constructable, Complete Specifying Total Envelope Solutions in a Low-Bid World Course Description: A whopping 90% of construction litigation is driven by moisture intrusion. That intrusion occurs within just 5% of the total surface area of the envelope. The culprit is always the same: transitions and penetrations. The roof must transition to the wall, the wall must transition to the foundation, the punched openings must be tied into the air barrier, the insulation must be installed over the air barrier, and the cladding goes overtop that... and on and on. What’s the challenge? We need the envelope to perform as a unified whole, but we specify, design, bid, VE, install, and inspect it in phases, which always involves multiple manufacturers and multiple trades. The industry is clearly consolidating around “total envelope solutions” provided by three to five horizontally integrated conglomerates, but we have not yet reached the inflection point: integrated envelope specifications/warranties. What’s it going to take to do things better?
