National Association of Charter School Authorizers (NACSA) reposted this
Annual state assessments are essential—not just for policymakers, but for families, educators, and, most importantly, students. Robin Gelinas Berkley's latest piece for The 74 Media makes this case clearly: without yearly exams, we lose the ability to track student growth, understand return on investment, identify outliers and disparities, and ensure accountability across our education system. Yes, we need better assessments—more timely, relevant, and actionable data to support real-time interventions—but moving away from annual testing isn’t the answer. Eliminating state assessments would take away the clearest, most objective measure of student learning we have, leaving families and educators in the dark about whether students are truly on track. Instead of retreating from annual assessments, we should be doubling down on how to make them work better for students. A must-read from Berkley on why annual assessments remain non-negotiable: https://lnkd.in/d2jRPPRx #Education #StudentSuccess #Assessment #Accountability
