𝑳𝒂𝒊𝒅 𝑶𝒇𝒇 𝟒 𝑻𝒊𝒎𝒆𝒔 𝒊𝒏 𝟔 𝒀𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒔—𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑰’𝒎 𝒂𝒕 𝒂 𝒍𝒐𝒔𝒔. Since entering the Environmental Science / Geology industry 6 years ago, four layoffs have been experienced—each one tied to market shifts, restructuring, or project cuts. The most recent? It happened three hours after closing on a first home. A day that should’ve been defined by stability turned into yet another sudden ending. ⸻ 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤, 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐬. • Proposals were written and won • Billability stayed high • Positive feedback was consistently received • But each role still ended the same way—outside of personal control It’s hard not to wonder: Is this just bad luck?
