“If little girls are not allowed to get the dirt of public lands under their fingernails, then we risk losing those wild Montana women who make history!” – Hilary Hutcheson, angler, POW Board member and Montana Community Member Eight years ago, Hilary Hutcheson stood in the Montana State Capitol, rallying with thousands of Montanans to protect millions of acres of public lands. This year, at the Montana Rally for Public Lands 2025, she found herself back in that same rotunda—this time, watching the next generation rise. Roughly 30% of the U.S. (about 640 million acres) is public land. That means it’s owned by us, the American people—not corporations or billionaires. These lands include national parks, forests, wildlife refuges, and BLM lands. They provide clean water, store carbon, sustain wildlife, and give us space to explore. Public land is where we cast fly rods, bomb singletrack, carve pow turns, and unplug in the wild. It’s our escape. Our heritage. Our shared backyard. But once it’s sold off or privatized, there’s no getting it back. Public land belongs to all of us. Let’s keep it that way. https://lnkd.in/eQjk6j-f Right now, powerful interests are working to chip away at these lands. The only way to stop them? Get loud. Get organized. Get involved. Contact your representatives and demand bold action to keep public lands in public hands. Graphics by Eliza Carver Images by MING POON, Jayme Dittmar, Jake Burchmore, Anthony Bonello

Protect Our Winters reposted this
Today, we’re launching #BrandsForPublicLands, a coalition fighting to defend public lands at risk of being sold, defunded, or developed. With over 17 billion dollars in collective revenue, these brands prove that protecting public lands isn’t partisan, it’s economic necessity. Why it matters: Public lands drive a 1.2 trillion dollars in outdoor economy and support five million jobs. The threat: Short-sighted policies risk irreversible damage for temporary gains. Our call: Decision makers must prioritize protecting public lands that matter to our communities and our economy. Read our press release and learn more, and reach out if you’re interested in adding your businesses to #BrandsforPublicLands: https://lnkd.in/gmzcS3BS

Speak up. Show Up. Protect Public Lands. Take action by urging Congress to stand up for these vital landscapes. https://lnkd.in/eQjk6j-f The Trump Administration is working towards fast-tracking oil and gas leases, gutting protections, and opening the door to irreversible extraction. At the same time, Congress is aiming to use a budget loophole to push the largest public land sell-off in decades—threatening national parks, wild places, and local communities. We're not just at risk of losing trails and views—we're at risk of losing the communities, jobs, and climate solutions that depend on these lands. Public lands drive local economies, protect biodiversity, and are essential in our fight against climate change. Here's what's at stake: - Vital tools for preserving wild places, cultural heritage, and recreation-based economies are increasingly at risk from oil and gas development. - Cornerstone protections like the Antiquities Act, National Environmental Policy Act, Endangered Species Act, and Clean Water & Clean Air Acts are being actively threatened. - A $1.2 trillion industry and over 5 million jobs depend on healthy, accessible public lands. Short-term profits cannot justify permanent loss. We're proud to stand with The Conservation Alliance, Outdoor Alliance and Patagonia #BrandsForPublicLands to defend the land that belongs to all of us. Images by: Jayme Dittmar & Anastasia Wilde

“The high-level talks can be full of platitudes and formalities but do move the needle forward on a global scale. Many present commented that it was great to have POW at the table to humanize the climate crisis and help connect science and politics to what we are witness to in the mountains every day. There is much work to do but we make a difference. No one can do everything but everyone can all do something!” Angela Hawse We're incredibly proud of POW Climb Alliance member Angela Hawse, who spoke at the United Nations in NYC for World Glacier Day. She shared insights from decades spent in high mountain and glacier environments, highlighting the real-time impacts of climate change and the power of community engagement in glacier preservation. Angela is one of only a few female IFMGA mountain guides in the world, with a career spanning more than 30 years. She’s served as president of the American Mountain Guides Association, trained countless aspiring guides, and holds a Master’s in International Mountain Conservation. Today, she sits on the IFMGA Board and serves as vice president of the Technical Commission. Angela is living and breathing what it means to be a climate advocate and an adventurer, working to protect the places we explore. Watch Angela’s full presentation here: https://lnkd.in/gfyp_P8F

For 18 years, we've worked across party lines to protect the places we love. But when leaders abandon science and dismantle the agencies that safeguard our air, water, and public lands—this has gone too far, and we must speak out. It's time to take action: contact the EPA and urge them to stand up for our planet: https://lnkd.in/edT6Y7tx In just two months, the Trump Administration has taken dangerous steps that are a direct threat to our mission: - Gutting agencies that protect our air and water. - Defunding climate science and resources for the public. - Prioritizing fossil fuels over clean energy solutions. The Outdoor State is 175 million strong, and we have the power to make real change. This is our chance to demand accountability and ensure the EPA follows the law, follows the science, and protects our communities and our families. Take action by writing to the EPA using our template, link in bio. Images by Donny O'Neill, 3 Jr Rodriguez, 4 Jake Burchmore, 5 Holly Shankland

For thousands of years, Earth’s climate followed a steady, predictable path. But in the late 1800s, we veered off course—burning fossil fuels on a massive scale and pumping excess greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. What should be a smooth ascent is now a dangerous climb. CO₂ and other greenhouse gases act like a rainfly on a tent—letting sunlight in but trapping heat inside. The result? Rising global temperatures, shifting weather patterns, and increasing risks for future generations. According to Nasa, 97% of climate scientists agree that human activities drive climate change. Greenhouse gases make up less than 1% of our atmosphere, yet they regulate the entire planet’s climate. We’re not just facing the storm; we’re fueling it. Read more on how greenhouse gases impact our planet and what we can do about it. https://lnkd.in/eKw-9TdY Graphics by Eliza Carver
