Here are five questions foundations and grantmaking vehicles need to be asking instead: 1) What is the risk of shifting support from frontline organizations while you build a new strategy? 2) What is the risk of reserving your grantmaking budget for "rapid response" instead of moving the money right now? 3) What is the risk of staffing up your legal controls while the groups you fund do not have the budget to staff up their legal support? 4) What is the risk of siloing yourself and thinking about your institution's safety over the field? 5) What is the risk of funders not playing our role right now? What questions are you asking to assess risk in a way that centers communities and movements?
