✨ Congratulations to the January CARES Award winners, who embody the Phelps Health values of Compassion, Accountability, Respect, Excellence and Service. ✨   CARES Award Winner: Beth Culp, Oncology Services A clinic patient was worried about getting to her next appointment on time. Beth walked the patient over to the MOB (Medical Office Building) and helped her find her way. While there, Beth noticed a father holding a young child and looking around. She asked if he needed help, and he explained that he was looking for a changing station because it was too cold to change the child in the car. Beth directed him to the accessible restroom stall, where he was relieved to find a changing station. Beth then noticed an elderly woman shivering in the MOB waiting room. She asked the Outreach Lab for a warm blanket, which the woman greatly appreciated. It takes just one act of kindness to brighten someone's day. In a short time, Beth did that for three people!   We Caught You Caring Award Winner: Mariah Persicke, BSN, RN, Obstetrics and Nursery I own a salon and spa in Rolla. On Sunday, one of my clients, who is 30 weeks pregnant and anemic, suddenly started feeling faint. My business partner and I helped her to her friend's car to go to the Emergency Department. Mariah, who happened to have an appointment that day, came outside to see if she could help. She asked questions to better understand the situation, and was kind and calm. Mariah graciously followed my client and her family to the Hospital to show them exactly where to go. It was a scary time for most of us, but Mariah put us all at ease. I am so grateful she was at the right place at the right time. She is an incredible nurse and went above and beyond – even on her day off – to make sure my client was cared for.   Department Award Winner: Public Safety During the recent snow and ice storm, I saw our Public Safety team assisting discharged patients and employees with numerous weather-related car problems. Day and night, they were out in the cold weather, scraping windshields, opening frozen car doors, jump-starting cars, calling for help with snow and ice removal, and much more. I’m very proud these folks are part of our team.    Remember, staff can nominate an employee for a CARES Award or Department Award on the employee portal or patients and visitors can nominate an employee for a We Caught You Caring Award at https://lnkd.in/g3yQT9PV

  • Congratulations to James Bass, MD, and Ariella Martin, FNP, on receiving the 2024 United Healthcare (UHC) Hero Award for their dedication to patient care at Phelps Health! They were recognized for this prestigious honor at a physician meeting this month. The award recognizes providers who go above and beyond in care coordination to ensure patients get the care they need. Dr. Bass (recently retired) and Ariella are among the fewer than 3% of Missouri providers selected by UHC to receive this honor — a testament to their outstanding service and commitment to our patients. Thank you for making a difference every day! 🌟

  • We were excited to host the University of Missouri (MU) for a mobile simulation training to further pediatric education at Phelps Health! This hands-on simulation experience provided invaluable learning opportunities for both our Phelps Health staff and East Central College nursing students. Through advanced simulations, participants sharpened their critical pediatric care skills, helping us provide even better care for our youngest patients. A huge thank you to MU for bringing this incredible training to us. We’re proud to support continuous learning and collaboration in healthcare. 👏

⭐ Congratulations! December 2024 DAISY Honoree Brittany Smith, RN Intensive Care Unit A patient said the following about Brittany: “When my father-in-law was recently in the ICU (intensive care unit), we had the pleasure of meeting Brittany. Our first day there, Brittany and another nurse brought my father-in-law a blanket and a stuffed monkey for his 88th birthday. It was a nice surprise. “As the night went on, my father-in-law’s condition worsened. Brittany was extremely compassionate to our family, explaining everything that was happening. We didn’t want my father-in-law to pass on his birthday. She guided my family through the process and helped us decide to wait until the next day to let him go. “As we all said our goodbyes, Brittany stayed close to support us. She even brought tea, coffee and snacks into the room for us. “Brittany deserves a medal for her truly caring heart during this sad time. Brittany, you are our hero! May you continue to be blessed.” Thank you, Brittany! You are an outstanding role model in our Phelps Health nursing community! The DAISY Award at Phelps Health is sponsored by the family of Vicki B. Allen through their philanthropic gift to the Phelps Health Foundation.
