Updates

  • Our team at the Jefferson Animal Hopsital has been hard at work pitching in to help victims of the fire in Medford, that claimed the life of Happy Cat Sanctuary president, Chris Arsenault, and over 100 of his sanctuary cats. Right now, they have two cats receiving regular bandage changes to address burns from the fire. They are both very strong and we have a ton of faith they will remain that way. #WeCare #OnePetVet #VeterinaryHeroes 📸: Jefferson Animal Hospital, Port Jefferson Station, NY.

  • Last June, Animal Control received a call about a small dog wandering the street that appeared to be covered in wounds. The officer located the dog and she was brought to Bluegrass Veterinary Specialists & Animal Emergency for evaluation and care. Dr. Roan and the emergency team quickly realized that this poor girl had been enduring a severe flea infestation and skin infection, malnutrition, corneal ulcers, and advanced dental disease for an extended period of time. They assessed her, gave her a much needed warm bath, combed hundreds of fleas out of the small patch of hair that she had left on her neck, and sent photos of her to one of our other ER doctors - Dr. Jones. Everyone here at BVS knows that she has a “type, and as soon as Dr. Jones saw the photos of this neglected old girl, she contacted one of the ACOs to request to be placed on the foster list for her. A few weeks later, she was contacted that Alice was cleared and ready to go to a foster home. Dr. Jones set Alice a whole room up for her to have a calm, comfortable place to heal and adjust. For weeks, Alice showed no signs of recognition of love or comfort. It took three months before Dr Jones saw the first tail wag from this little old lady that was now lovingly called Chupie (short for Chupacabra). When Chupie went to LHS for her much needed dental cleaning and extraction of bad teeth, a worrisome discovery was made - one of her tonsils was four times the size of the other, and looked abnormal. The tonsil was removed and testing determined that Chupie had Lymphoma. This poor girl had already been through so much, and was now also facing a long-term battle with cancer. Due to this diagnosis, Chupie was not eligible to be adopted out… except to an experienced veterinary professional that would be able to provide her with the care she would need for the remainder of her life. Dr. Jones knew without hesitation that Chupie belonged in her home, and she officially adopted her in August! Chupie has came a long way since the first time she walked through the doors at BVS. Her cancer is now in remission, she has grown back almost all of her hair, and she is a spunky old lady that loves accompanying her mom to work and seeing all of her friends at BVS! Thank you Dr Jones for loving Chupie 💙 📸: Bluegrass Veterinary Specialists + Animal Emergency, Lexington, KY
