"The anticipated power demand in Texas in the next 5 years is 150 Gigawatts; are we going to build a nuclear plant in Texas in the next 5 years? No. Can we rely on wind and solar? No. Almost by default, the answer is natural gas." At PRAGMA’s New York Launch Party last month, I sat down with PRAGMA Advocacy Committee member Daniel Romito of Pickering Energy Partners for PRAGMA’s latest podcast. We spoke about what the energy industry needs to do to create “FOMO” and get capital flowing back to the space again; we talked about the need to discuss water, power, and transmission simultaneously in the context of meeting significant energy demand growth as a result of generative AI; and Dan shared data to support the findings in his recent report “American Coal Is Cleaner Than Chinese Solar”, shedding light on how the global supply chain for wind & solar is almost entirely reliant on China and access to cheap coal, and highlighting how reliance on China for energy can lead to a rise in global emissions compared to a strategy that incentivises domestically produced energy and prioritises natural gas, nuclear and other low carbon forms of energy. Team Patriot is absolutely thrilled to announce a recent performance milestone! Our team was tasked with a significant challenge to drill a 3 well UTurn pad in the high temperature environment of Karnes County, Texas. These Eagle Ford wells are currently the deepest TVD in the Lower 48 at 13,300, with one of the highest turn rates at 11°/100. The Patriot team was able to drill these production sections with a single BHA for the initial curve, UTurn, and return lateral on each well. Not only an achievement in downhole reliability, but these wells have varying TVD’s meaning that wellbore positioning and steering was critical to success.
