We are thrilled to share that we have developed the world's first seedless blackberry! “A key challenge in our food system is helping people eat more high-quality, healthy foods. As part of our drive to increase the consumption of fruit and vegetables, we’re working to provide consumers with new, highly nutritious food options with improved flavor and convenience,” said Tom Adams, Pairwise Co-Founder and CEO. “With a deep understanding of the plant genome, an accurate, efficient, and scalable process, and streamlined pathway to commercialization, we are not only creating new products with our proprietary CRISPR technology, we are creating a new era of innovation in agriculture.” In addition to achieving the first seedless trait in any caneberry, we’ve created thornless and compact traits in the same variety to deliver benefits for consumers, growers, and the environment all in one.

Pairwise celebrated the grand-reopening of our newly renovated greenhouse growth facilities with a ribbon cutting. 🪴 I'm incredibly proud of the whole team that enabled this and the proactive planning that led to this facility being back up and running just in time for our key collaborations. Congratulations to the whole team, including our Controlled Environments team doing the honors - Will Sublett, Bruno Casamali, Jesse Kulesza, Johanna P., Hunter Buchanan, Joel Reiner, and Maxton Collins. Not pictured Max Staffa, Pradeep Reddy Marri, and Andrew DeBrecht were additional key contributors. These upgraded facilities improve operational effictivness at Pairwise by adding flexibility through another growth compartment; improved stewardship of germplasm through isolation airlocks between compartments; and improved plant health and environmental sustainability through upgrading our illumination to high-efficiency, broad-spectrum LEDs.

As Colombia is becoming a key player in the berry industry in the region, it is important to bring the industry players together to network and catch up on the latest developments in the berry world. I have been invited to attend the 1st Berry Congress in Colombia next week. I am looking forward to interacting with growers and stakeholders in Bogota, and talking about our genome edited high-yielding and seedless blackberries.
