Hi there, I’m Emily and I realize I’ve been the voice behind this page and you have no idea who I am! Hailing from Texas but now calling Illinois home, I’m a queer Latine therapist and most importantly, a proud pet parent to three amazing furbabies who, depending on the day, keep me sane or drive me insane. Nonetheless, I love them and they help keep things interesting. I’ve been doing therapy work for nearly a decade and there’s no way I could have done it without the support of my spouse or furbabies. Since before it had a name, Oyanova Healing has meant freedom for me. The idea that I could work for myself and (ideally sometime soon) work with other BIPOC therapists to share in that freedom and work towards our collective liberation keeps me going even when having my own business has felt impossible. My goal with Oyanova Healing is to build an equitable, employee owned group practice working with and centering the voices of queer BIPOC therapists and clients. Anywho, thank you for being here and coming on this journey with me! #mentalhealth #latinetherapist

The results of the election have been in for days. There isn't much new to say or some grand revelation to be had. These past few days I (Em) and my wife have been putting on our oxygen masks first. We have been leaning into each other and our communities to restore ourselves. This is the only way I can continue to show up, be present, and provide care. If you need help, here are some resources. Oyanova Healing will continue providing safe, affirming, competent care to individuals in our communities. The results of the election only further solidify our ongoing and deep commitment to our queer, BIPOC community. If you or someone you know needs help, please reach out to us or any of these resources. If we can't help we will connect you with someone or a safe agency that will.

That saying.. That we have to work twice as hard to get half as far… pretty accurately sums it up. Latinas have to work into OCTOBER to make up what their white, male counterparts make in one year. That’s 1 year and 10 months (22 months) to make what men make in 12 months. At this rate, it will take centuries for Latinas to ever reach equity. #LatinaEqualPayDay #HispanicHertiageMonth #CloseTheGap

Despite the higher rates of college enrollment, not only are Latine people graduating with incredible amounts of student loan debt, this is now delaying other important life decisions. The financial weight of college compounds over time and impacts daily and yearly decision making for Latine people. According to a Bankrate Survey, “70% of Hispanic respondents have delayed important financial milestones due to their student loan debt, compared to less than half of white respondents.” Going to college isn’t the end all be all and isn’t the only pathway to success. In some cases it only creates further financial hardship on the pathway to building financial security. https://lnkd.in/guN6SDZP #LatinaEqualPayDay #HispanicHertiageMonth #CloseTheGap

“Latinas are going to college at higher rates than ever before. But education doesn’t eliminate the pay gap. In fact, the gap is largest for Latinas with a bachelor’s degree, who earn 31% less than white men on average.” https://lnkd.in/gdMCHJPU. #LatinaEqualPayDay #HispanicHertiageMonth #CloseTheGap

FIFTY.SEVEN.CENTS!! To every single dollar. Latinas are actively losing 43 cents per dollar for every hour that they work. Over the course of a 40 year career that equates to over 1 MILLION dollars. #LatinaEqualPayDay #HispanicHertiageMonth #CloseTheGap
