Natural language interfaces can enhance software functionality by enabling #AI to interact with external tools and APIs. In this code-along, we'll explore GPT-4o's function calling capabilities, allowing AI to execute actions in traditional #software environments. By the end of this session, you'll have a functional system where GPT-4o can seamlessly interact with external functions, providing dynamic and automated software interactions using natural language: https://bit.ly/43QEmpz

🐋Congratuations to my friend Suhas Pai on the release of his book "Designing Large Language Model Applications" (O'Reilly) In this book, Suhas guides the reader through a comprehensive overview of fundamentals, as well as draws on his rich experience to guide the reader through the newest battle-tested techniques. The timeliness of this practical book will be very useful for a whole new generation of LLM builders. I'm honored to have been a technical reviewer of the book throughout the process. Along with Serena M - also a friend and technical reviewer - we snapped a celebratory photo with a foggy CN Tower as a backdrop! Get the book here: https://lnkd.in/gQcDtDrB

𝗡𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁! 𝗜'𝗺 𝗵𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗺𝘆 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗽𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗿, O'Reilly, 𝗶𝗻 𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝘆. 🧠 All of us experimenting with and deploying these technologies know that we are still in the early days. I heard someone compare the current tools to dial-up modems at the dawn of the Internet. I think this is true. There are so many things left to figure out—edge cases, integrations, testing, and security. I'll share my experience in this session, and I'm looking forward to hearing the students' stories. Note: This will be a more technical session than usual from me, and experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) is highly recommended to get the most out of it.

I’m workshopping a new idea for my talk at the O'Reilly Coding with AI conference this May, and I keep coming back to this: AI is really good at applying knowledge. But software development isn’t just about knowledge—it’s about skill, design, and judgment. At the same time, AI tools are getting better and better at writing code. So where’s the line between knowledge and skill? I don’t think it’s where most people assume it is. That’s not meant to be an engagement-grubbing hot take (ugh). I just think there’s something deeper here, and I want to spend some time thinking through it. And I figured a few folks here might be interested in seeing that process unfold. I don’t have answers yet—but I’m working on them. 🧠 Catch the talk May 8 at the O’Reilly Coding with AI: The End of Software Development as We Know It event: 🔗 https://lnkd.in/e-_Umvr5
