The Job Tracker is LIVE, and it comes with one cool feature. Most job seekers track where they applied. But almost no one tracks how long they’ve been waiting. Now, you can see how long you've been waiting. Enter Candidate Waiting Time (CWT) In the past, I've been asking companies to track this. Now, I've created an automation to allow candidates to measure this. CWT shifts the focus to YOU, the candidate. It measures how long you’ve been waiting for an update—whether it’s: ⤷ An interview invite ⤷ A rejection ⤷ An offer How it works: Every time a company communicates, your CWT resets. Why does this matter? ⤷ Holds companies accountable ⤷ Improves transparency ⤷ It helps you spot patterns in slow or ghosting employers Now, you can track all of this in the new Notion Job Tracker. It’s Live for the Open To Work newsletter subscribers. One suggestion is for job seekers to upload their CWT data to a central form, allowing me to generate reports on best/worst performers. Let me know your other ideas on how this information could be used. Try it out.

Tomorrow, I will launch a Notion-based Job Tracker featuring built-in automation. Over 50% of job seekers don’t use spreadsheets or any system. ⤷They lose track of where they applied. ⤷ They forget to follow up. ⤷ They miss opportunities. That’s wild. That’s why I’m launching a Notion Job Tracker (tomorrow). Mark an application as applied → It logs the details for you. Get a response? Click 'contacted', and it will update automatically. See everything in one place—no more lost emails or missed deadlines. No more manual tracking. No more missed chances. Just clarity—so you can focus on getting hired. 📩 Early access for Open to Work Toolkit subscribers! I’ll be emailing Version 1 to subscribers this Friday to test it out. Want to try it? • What are your main job search predictions for 2025? Naturally AI will be a huge part of the job search experience for candidates, both with the tooling for candidates and for companies. But AI can hinder your job search as well as help, so be sure to triple check the incentive behind the tool you're purchasing to ensure it's not selling you magic beans. Check out this week's episode of the Open To Work Podcast with guest Darren Bush and host Matthew Parker. As ever thank you to our sponsors Hireguide and Alderson James for keeping this essential content free for all!

  • Our podcast is BACK. This time with Darren Bush where they outlined their predictions for job seekers for 2025. Tune in each Monday to get insights from recruiting leaders on how to navigate this job market. On YouTube, Apple and Spotify podcasts 😎

What will your job search look like in 2025? Matthew made some impressive predictions that will likely happen this year on his Open to Work Podcast. Even though it was my first meeting of the year (I felt rusty), I thoroughly enjoyed our debate and conversation with Matthew Parker. For someone who runs his own podcast, Matthew has raised the game on the quality of his production and clips, as you can tell. If you're not a subscriber, check it out. His podcast is littered with amazing guests and insights every week. The latest episode with yours truly is out today.

  • Huge announcement to start the year. We have officially merged our newsletter with the Get Hired Toolkit by Darren Bush. Talent Acquisition Leader | LinkedIn Top Voice | Founder of the Open To Work Community, helping job seekers find their next opportunity, fast.

This week, I announced the closure of the Open To Work Community. As a founder, I’ve always been committed to ensuring our community provided immense value to its members and continued to grow with them. However, with my current commitments, I’ve realized I am unable to dedicate the time and energy required to do this effectively. I am incredibly proud of what we’ve built together. With the support of our amazing coaches and members, we have: • Helped over 100 job seekers find their next opportunity. • Created an extraordinary library of unrivaled job-seeking content. • Built a safe, trusted space for job seekers to receive independent advice from people who genuinely care. While the community itself will come to an end, the Open To Work Community brand and podcast will live on. The brand remains committed to standing for independent, objective advice and will continue to advocate for job seekers by amplifying the voices of experts in recruitment and HR. None of this would have been possible without our incredible coaches. Melissa Grabiner Daniel Space 🏳️🌈 Samantha Shulman Darrell Clack Chetan Vyas Thank you for your belief in our mission and dedication to supporting our members. It has been nothing short of extraordinary. To everyone who joined and contributed to this journey: thank you. You’ve been the heart of this community, and it’s been an honor to support you. This may be the end of one chapter, but still just the start of our story.

  • Networking isn’t about sending a one-and-done message—it’s about building relationships, and that requires following up. Here are a few tips to keep in mind: 🥺 Don’t take silence personally. If someone doesn’t reply immediately, it’s not about you! People are busy with overflowing inboxes and to-do lists. Instead of assuming they’re not interested, stay persistent to help your message rise to the top—both metaphorically and literally. 🤝 Build relationships before you need them. Networking isn’t about sending a cold email when there’s a job you want. It’s about finding your people early so they think of you when opportunities arise. 🔁 Make it a two-way street. Networking isn’t just about what you can get—it’s about what you can give. Share their posts, buy them coffee, offer leads, or simply show support. Little gestures go a long way. And remember: Follow up! Staying organized is key. Use a reminder on your phone, a “Follow-Up Friday” habit, or even a spreadsheet to track your contacts. Melissa Grabiner shared terrific networking advice in Open to Work this week including this gem: 💎 “After networking, follow up with a personalized message. Keep your connections warm by occasionally sharing articles, congratulating them on achievements, or offering help.” 💎 Tap into our network, meet other job seekers and get great tips from our coaches at www.opentowork.community.

  • Make Networking Work! This week in Open to Work, we’re all about networking. For some, it comes naturally. For others, networking—whether in person or virtually—can be exhausting. No matter which group you’re in, focusing your efforts and setting boundaries is key. The group in our How to Get Hired workshop shared three strategies to help make networking work for you: ⏲️ Set Timers for LinkedIn – Being on LinkedIn all day can burn you out and take you away from “real life.” Set a timer—25 minutes to an hour—then take a break for some fresh air or an in-person chat. 🚫 Block Irrelevant Content – Don’t get sidetracked by clickbait or sales pitches. There’s a lot of dubious advice and negativity out there. Stay focused on what truly helps your job search. 🌈 Focus on Positive Interactions – Seek out people who are helping others, offering solid advice, or doing what you want to do. Focus on the smiles, not the smirks. Those terrific points didn't come from our coaches - but from some wonderful members of our community, Carrie Johnson, MA, Suz V., Dahlia Hanin - MA, CPC, ACC, Melissa Stepp and others. Join the conversation: www.opentowork.community
