A special thank you to Dr. Roy Lacey and Judy Lussier from our Trauma Department for their invaluable participation in the program. It Starts Here began at Brookdale in 2016 as an initiative to reduce gun violence and its negative effects on our community. The program educates young people on the real-life consequences of firearms and blunt trauma. Over the years, it has grown and now partners with Central Brooklyn Economic Development Corporation (CBEDC) to support students ages 16-24 in developing career goals, gaining essential skills, and connecting with mentors who can guide them toward success. Thank you to everyone who continues to support this important initiative!

We had an amazing experience yesterday during our health specialized high school tour, hosted by the External Affairs Department! Twenty senior students from the Institute of Health Professions at Cambria Heights High School joined us for a truly engaging and informative visit. They participated in a dynamic conversation and tour with our Pharmacy Department, led by Johnna Ha Director of Pharmacy and his incredible team. The students gained valuable insight into the role of a Pharmacist and the distinction between a Pharmacist and a Pharmacy Technician. Additionally, the students had the unique opportunity to meet Dr. Ramy Abdel-Naby, Chief - Division of Trauma Surgery & Surgical ICU. He shared his inspiring career journey and gave an inside look into what happens in the operating room. The students even got to dress in full surgical attire—“bunny suits”—and tour the Robinson OR, including seeing some of the advanced medical equipment up close. They learned so much about the impactful work we do here at OBH, and we were honored to host and inspire these future healthcare professionals. These students are on track to become CNAs, EMTs, Surgical Technicians, and Pharmacy Technicians, and OBH is proud to support the next generation of healthcare heroes.
