Building the Legal Infrastructure for Healthcare AI: Event Recap Just a a few hours ago we concluded our "Bridging Law and Innovation: Effective AI Collaborations in Biomedicine" event at Microsoft's Redmond campus, and I wanted to express my gratitude to everyone who made it possible. Thank you to our exceptional speakers who shared their expertise, insights, and vision for the future of AI in biomedicine. Dr. Jonathan Carlson's keynote set the perfect tone, while our distinguished panelists navigated complex topics with clarity and wisdom. The event exceeded our expectations, with a packed room representing an impressive cross-section: Microsoft Health Futures team members, lawyers from across the country, technologists, researchers, clinicians, compliance professionals, and others committed to advancing healthcare innovation. What struck me most was our collective recognition that we're at a pivotal moment. If the rate-limiting factor in realizing AI's benefits is more legal than technological—as Satya Nadella recently suggested—then what we witnessed was precisely what's needed: professionals tackling these challenges head-on. From regulatory frameworks to practical deployment considerations, the discussions reflected both the complexity of the challenges and the determination to overcome them. As we continue this work through the Digital Health Counsel, I'm encouraged by the connections formed and the collaborative spirit demonstrated. The "last mile" challenge in healthcare AI requires exactly this kind of multidisciplinary approach. Thank you to Microsoft for hosting us, to everyone who attended, and to all who contributed to the discussions. And again, thank you to our exceptional speakers: Jonathan Carlson Emily Schlesinger Alya Sulaiman Zach Harned William Bartholomew Stephanie Simmons Kathleen Sullivan Valerie Carricaburu Adina Mueller Tayab Waseem MD PhD Your contributions made this event truly special.
