The Geauga County Maple Leaf recently spotlighted an inspiring collaboration between Cardinal Local School District and Ohman Family Living to train the next generation of caregivers. Over the past few years, the healthcare sector has faced significant workforce shortages, but we see a tremendous opportunity to build a brighter future by investing in young talent. Ohman Family Living has joined a statewide collaboration through Ohio Department of Health Care Association and others to develop and pilot an innovative solution to create a career ladder for Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs). This program allows CNAs to advance their skills—through specializations like dementia care, mental health, and technology—while increasing their earning potential with structured salary increases at each level. This initiative will be transformative, not only for the caregivers but also for the quality of care in senior living and post-acute settings. What makes this program even more impactful is its alignment with the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce’s objectives. It provides students with an alternative path to graduation through career readiness education in high school, equipping them with strong skills and a solid foundation to launch a meaningful career in healthcare. This isn’t just about filling jobs—it’s about creating pathways for hope and opportunity. We’re excited to continue developing these solutions and building a workforce that’s ready to meet the needs of our aging population. A huge thank you to Cardinal High School for being the first of many schools in our region to pilot these solutions for your student body! Also, we appreciate the Geauga MapleLeaf for covering this story and our partners in this journey! Let’s keep the momentum going—how can we further support the next generation of healthcare professionals? The COVID-19 pandemic challenged healthcare systems like never before, but it also inspired innovation in how we deliver care. At the PointClickCare 2025 Summit, Joshua Wallace and Kurt I., part of the leadership team at Ohman Family Living, recounted a use care how practitioner’s orders serve as the backbone of healthcare—and how their team and partnerships turned crisis into opportunity for innovation. During the pandemic’s chaos, when patients and resident’s physicians couldn’t safely travel from one facility to another, Ohman Family Living digitized physicians orders to ensure uninterrupted care. This solution didn’t just keep care flowing—it demonstrated the power of technology in a time of need. Kurt I. believes this same transparency can transform the future. “By sharing data digitally with acute and payer partners in real time, we can guide patients to the right care settings—often steering them away from the Emergency Room.” Joshua Wallace added, “within senior living, we can build care paths harnessing our home and community-based services, treating patients effectively without costly hospitalizations.” Both leaders see a bright future ahead, fueled by payment and policy reforms that will support these innovative models. As the baby boomer population ages, how can we build better systems and collaborations to design the way healthcare is delivered in senior living?
