🚨ALERT🚨 The ocean is at risk!!! Over more than 75 years the oil and gas industry has been treating the Gulf like a junkyard - leading to oil spills and risk to marine life, our ocean and the planet. What’s worse - they are leaving the mess there: 🔧 18,000 miles of unused pipeline littering the ocean floor 🍥 500 unused, deteriorating platforms, sitting ducks for hurricane season 🛢️ 2,700 inactive, unplugged wells, at risk of leaking toxins into the ocean The current Congress has proposed additional mandated offshore oil and gas lease sales. More drilling means more risk, more mess, and more planet-warming fossil fuels. Now, more than ever, Congress needs to hear from people like you that putting our ocean at risk is NOT OKAY: https://lnkd.in/eB7dQSeH

It’s time to say farewell to foam. 👋 Join us and tell Congress to pass the Farewell to Foam Act and protect our ocean and beaches from harmful plastic foam products! Plastic foam, colloquially referred to by the brand name “Styrofoam,” has been around for decades and has become a part of everyday life. At some point, you’ve probably had a beverage in a foam cup, eaten a meal off a foam plate or received a package filled to the brim with foam packing peanuts. The ugly truth is that plastic foam is among the worst kinds of plastic pollution for our environment —it breaks apart easily and can be blown by the wind and dispersed as pollution. In fact, Ocean Conservancy’s International Coastal Cleanup® volunteers have collected nearly 9 million plastic foam cups, plates and takeout containers since 1986, weighing more than 160,000 pounds of non-recyclable material! It’s time to say farewell to foam once and for all. Add your name this #EarthMonth below. 🌊 🌎 ⬇️ 🔗 https://bit.ly/4i6M7vV 📸 = Emily Brauner/Ocean Conservancy

The National Environmental Policy Act protects more than land—it protects our ocean. From fishery management to offshore energy, NEPA regulations have long been the tool federal agencies use to evaluate the environmental consequences of major ocean activities. The recent move to rescind the White House Council on Environmental Quality’s authority to issue these regulations puts the ocean at serious risk. Without a unified process, each agency will make its own rules, opening the door to inconsistency, confusion and reduced public input. At a time of unprecedented climate and industrial pressure, we must strengthen—not weaken—protections for our ocean. NEPA is essential. Our ocean deserves better. Read our letter. #NEPA #ClimateAction

We have some GOOD NEWS! 🎉 Courts ruled that a massive oil and gas lease sale in the Gulf was illegal, which could help protect this critical habitat from drilling. This is a win for our ocean and our planet. Read more: https://bit.ly/3E0s4As

A special shoutout to Oscar Negroni and Jenna DiPaolo Colley for leading the charge at Ocean Conservancy for #ProtectWhereWePlay alongside 17 Sport. Sport has the power to unite us—and now, it’s helping us protect the places we play. #ProtectWhereWePlay #OceanConservancy #TeamOcean
🌊✨ 17 Sport Co-Founder Neill Duffy and US VP Mike Geddes met with Ocean Conservancy last week in San Francisco following a successful launch of Protect Where We Play! ☀️🏀 Our team had the opportunity to present Protect Where We Play to Ocean Conservancy’s Board of Directors alongside Jenna DiPaolo Colley (Ocean Conservancy Chief Brand and Communications Officer) and Oscar Negroni (Ocean Conservancy VP of Brand and Marketing). The feedback was positive, insightful, and optimistic about the initiative’s mission to defend the future of the sports and entertainment we love. 🤩🌌 The trip’s itinerary included attending an Ocean Conservancy event at the Exploratorium, where an invited audience of donors and business leaders gathered to celebrate the launch. The event made it even more clear to us that the combination of sports and entertainment superstars and fans with conservation action is a dynamic and impactful blend. 🪸🦈 Are you ready to join the roster? Ocean Conservancy reposted this
Honored to be part of the #ProtectWhereWePlay campaign with EcoAthletes and Ocean Conservancy. This is why I love working in sports sustainability—leveraging the platform of sports to inspire real behavior change. As an endurance athlete, every detail—nutrition, hydration, sleep, and consistency—affects performance, months or years before race day. Sustainability follows the same principle—small, daily actions compound into meaningful change over time. Just as training is about long-term commitment, protecting our environment requires us to think beyond the immediate and take action for lasting impact. Check out the interview to learn more!

🚨 The U.S. fishing industry is facing serious disruption. Regulatory freezes and firings at NOAA Fisheries are compounding existing challenges like overfishing and could cause delays in reopening of key fisheries, such as the Northeast groundfish fishery. These disruptions impact coastal economies, food security and livelihoods across the nation and threaten the health of marine ecosystems. Learn more about these powerful stories from fishermen in this in-depth report from Reuters: 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eRT46f3w

Thirty-six years ago, the oil tanker #ExxonValdez ran aground in Alaska’s Prince William Sound, triggering one of the worst environmental disasters in history. Time and time again, we’ve seen the toll of oil spills—loss of wildlife, damage to marine ecosystems and harm to human health. The impacts of oil disasters will continue to be felt for years to come unless we act. Take action and urge Congress to prevent future oil spills like Exxon Valdez. 🛑 🗣️ Add your name now: https://bit.ly/4hQWUJO

🌿 For Alaska Native Peoples, food is more than just a meal—it is identity, history and connection to the land and waters. Traditional food practices encompass how food is gathered, stored, prepared and shared. These practices sustain not only people but entire ecosystems, reinforcing the deep reciprocity between humans and the natural world. Yet, today’s systems of managing lands, waters and wildlife often fail to acknowledge these relationships. Conservation and resource management policies frequently focus on ecology and economics, but what about sustainability? ✅ What does it mean when a community is fed but its heart is still hungry? ✅ How can policy better reflect sustainability alongside environmental protection? ✅ Why does prioritizing Indigenous food sovereignty strengthen conservation for everyone? In a recently published essay, Ocean Conservancy staff worked alongside Alaska Native authors and researchers to explore the inherent connection between culture and conservation. 📖 Learn more about this vital conversation: https://lnkd.in/d9vsV6HA #IndigenousRights #FoodSovereignty #AlaskaNative #Conservation #CulturalHeritage
