OBADA & CIRPASS: Advancing Digital Product Passports for a Circular Economy We’re excited to share that OBADA’s CIRPASS Pilot Project is now featured on the CIRPASS website! 🌍 OBADA is developing blockchain-powered Digital Product Passports (DPPs) for IT asset disposition (ITAD), ensuring secure, verifiable tracking throughout a device’s lifecycle. By creating an immutable record of an asset’s history, OBADA enables businesses and consumers to verify proper recycling, confirm secure data destruction, and prevent counterfeit devices. Many DPP proposals rely on centralized systems controlled by a single company—creating risks if that company changes policies or shuts down. OBADA takes a decentralized approach, using Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) to ensure DPP data remains secure, permanent, and interoperable across industries. Key Features of OBADA’s Digital Product Passport Model: ✅ Immutable lifecycle tracking – A permanent record of where and when an asset was produced, sold, repaired, upgraded, resold, harvested for components, or recycled. ✅ Encrypted, owner-controlled data – Secure access where only authorized parties can view specific DPP data, with strong encryption and permission-based controls. ✅ Standards-based interoperability – Built to align with ISO 20435, enabling seamless data exchange between Digital Product Passport platforms across industries. What is CIRPASS? CIRPASS is a European Commission-funded initiative bringing together industry leaders to develop Digital Product Passports—a standardized system for tracking products from production through reuse, resale, and recycling. These passports enable greater transparency, traceability, and sustainability across industries, supporting the circular economy. 🌞 Exciting News from the Electronics Sustainability Summit! 🌞 We had a fantastic session with DAO Members, partners, and new friends at the eSummit in Austin, where we showcased OBADA’s technology through a real-world use case demo. In partnership with an OBADA Member based in Middlebury, Vermont, and their Ghanaian partner, we’re leveraging blockchain traceability to securely track solar panels shipped for reuse—providing transparent verification that these panels reach their intended destination and purpose. At the session, we demonstrated how OBADA and Tradeloop's system aligns with the proposed ISO 20435 standard.
