🔍 HOW EU FUNDING FLOWS TO NOVOCYCLE Ever wonder how EU funding actually reaches innovative projects on the ground? Here’s how it works for our JTF-105 project in Geleen 👇 The Just Transition Fund (JTF) was set up by the EU to support regions moving away from carbon-intensive industries. One of those regions is Zuid-Limburg. Here’s how the money flows: The European Union → Province of Limburg → Novocycle. Limburg receives the JTF budget from the EU, then allocates it to regional projects through competitive calls. Novocycle applied and was awarded funding for a pilot plant that upgrades lithium-ion battery recycling in a radically more circular way. This grant isn’t just about building tech—it’s about building a future. • Novocycle’s process recycles over 96% of battery materials—up from 70% in current tech. • It slashes CO₂ emissions by up to 67% compared to virgin battery production. • The project will create at least 18 new jobs and establish a long-term R&D hub at Brightlands Chemelot Campus. • Our pilot is laying the groundwork for two commercial recycling facilities in South Limburg. Understanding how these funding streams work matters. It shows how the EU supports local innovation that has global impact—and how public investment can drive real change at the community level.
