Norwescap serves as a foundation of support, offering crucial assistance, effective strategies, necessary resources, and referrals to help individuals and families overcome economic hurdles so they can thrive. By bridging the gap between surviving and thriving, Norwescap enables people to build a stronger, more stable future—despite the pressures of financial constraints. Our goal is to create opportunities that improve individual lives, bolster community resilience, and transform poverty into a springboard for economic empowerment and societal advancement. Norwescap was founded in 1965 during the presidency of Lyndon Johnson and his administration’s efforts referred to as the “War on Poverty,” further fueled by the advocacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Over the next six decades, Norwescap has grown to build a comprehensive foundation of programs and services that, together, positively impact tens of thousands of people each year. Our tailored portfolio of programs and services is designed to address a wide range of unique challenges faced by New Jersey residents, offering access to the essentials for a more secure life—stable housing, nutritious food, healthcare, education, and more.

    Thanks to Assemblywoman Shama Haider, Chair of the Committee on Children, Families and Food Security, for spending part of her day learning how Norwescap aligns multiple programs and resources to address the challenges under her Committee’s purview. Norwescap links programs like our innovative Foodbank work to WIC, childcare and other programs to ensure that we are addressing the many needs that our program participants face. Special thanks to Scott Savokinas of The Lords Pantry at Trinity Church in Hackettstown for helping to explain how Norwescap works with local pantries to support innovative pantries!
