🌊 April's Watering Hole at NU Water featured the brilliant Professor Will Dichtel! The discussion centered on one of today's most pressing environmental challenges: PFAS contamination in water systems. We were joined by students, faculty and even some neighbors from nearby Loyola University Chicago, the Getzinger group (Gordon G.) Will spoke about how he and his team at Northwestern University Department of Chemistry are pioneering innovative solutions for removing these "forever chemicals" from our water, particularly their focus on developing materials that can selectively target PFAS, even in complex water environments. #WaterResearch #Environmental #Sustainability #Innovation #CleanWater #Science #PFAS #Research #Northwestern Save the Date! May 27th, for our next Watering Hole! Stay tuned for details! 🎯💧

New research from Dayne Swearer and first author Emma-Rose Newmeyer explores a light-activated catalytic process to produce propylene—one of the world’s most widely used commodity chemicals—with greater energy efficiency. This innovative approach could significantly reduce industrial emissions and support the global push for decarbonization. A promising step toward greener manufacturing and a more sustainable future. #SustainableChemistry #GreenManufacturing #Decarbonization #Catalysis Read more in Chemistry World: https://lnkd.in/g2zada_Z

We're very excited to share our latest publication on electrosynthesis for the coupling of chemical feedstocks: olefins and CO2 in Angewandte Chemie. Grad student Stella Fors utilized alternating polarity (AP) electrolysis to enable a selective hydrocarboxylation reaction that undergoes a mechanism unique to other electrochemical olefin functionalization reactions. Detailed mechanistic studies demonstrate the role of AP on selectivity, mechanism, and the dual role of triethanolamine as reductant and HAT source. Congratulations, Stella! https://lnkd.in/gGTWgCMs Yong Jia Yap Northwestern University Department of Chemistry
