The New Jersey State Bar Association argued as amicus on Monday that the state Supreme Court is the sole authority to regulate the practice of law in New Jersey. The Appellate Division case, Anchor Law Firm, PLLC, et al. v. The State of New Jersey, et al, involves language in the New Jersey Debt Adjustment and Credit Counseling Act that attempts to regulate attorneys who provide debt adjustment services as part of their practice. “There should not be any ambiguity in the rules that apply to lawyers,” NJSBA Treasurer Diana C. Manning argued before the Appellate Division. “This is an absolute overreach of the Legislature on the right of the Judiciary to be the sole arbiter of the conduct of lawyers.” Read the NJSBA’s brief. https://ow.ly/vzC750VwP34 #NJStateBar

Join us on April 17 for Imposter Syndrome and Burnout in the Legal Profession Imposter syndrome is a psychological phenomenon where someone persistently doubts their accomplishments, believing their success is undeserved, even when presented with evidence of their competence. Essentially, it's the feeling that you're not qualified for your achievements and are about to be "found out" as a fake despite external validation. Imposter syndrome can be crippling. It can prevent you from achieving your goals and interfere with mental well-being. In this thought-provoking, interview style presentation featuring Sheryl Anjanette, author of “The Imposter Lies Within,” and Moderator Carlos M. Bollar you’ll learn how to take the mask off the imposter to understand how imposter syndrome can impact your legal practice and what you can do about it. Learn the framework and holistic methods to not only get through imposter syndrome, but the effective strategies and techniques to deal with it effectively, whether you suffer from it or know colleagues who do. You’ll also learn how imposter syndrome can contribute to burnout and how to ease it. To learn more about this program visit: https://ow.ly/Xw5R50VrJOA #NJICLE #impostersyndrome #clecredits

This year’s Annual Meeting and Convention agenda will include over 100 seminars for attendees to earn CLE credits in programming that spans nearly every practice area for attorneys to enhance their professional development. This year’s programming on May 16 will feature retired U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice Stephen Breyer. The program, moderated by retired state Supreme Court Justice Barry T. Albin, will center on themes in Justice Breyer’s latest book “Reading the Constitution: Why I Chose Pragmatism, Not Textualism.” Together, these two titans of jurisprudence will dissect the pragmatic approach to interpretating the Constitution and the competing judicial philosophy – textualism – which guides decisions from the current court.
