  • Twenty-four year old Emma Hooker began volunteering with the Mortuary and Bereavement Service in Hull last year. She’s a shining example of how volunteering can help young people and aspiring health professionals get ahead in an increasingly competitive field. Emma says becoming a young volunteer gave her the confidence to apply when a job for a Mortuary Support Worker came up and the knowledge and experience to stand out from the crowd at interview. By gaining experience in a hospital setting as a volunteer, Emma was able to confirm that this type of role was right for her, and now she's a permanent and much-loved member of the team who's due to conclude her Forensic Sciences degree this summer. Read Emma's story on our website below, and if you'd like to know more about the Humber Health Champions volunteering programme for young people aged 16 to 25, contact our Voluntary Service Team on 07443 187097 or email hyp-tr.huth.volunteers@nhs.net Volunteering opportunities are available across our hospitals in Goole, Grimsby, Hull, Scunthorpe and Castle Hill.

  • We’re expanding its triage service at the Queen’s Centre Acute Assessment Unit (QCAAU) to help patients from Northern Lincolnshire as well as those from Hull and the East Riding. This initiative aims to reduce unnecessary hospital admissions for oncology and haematology patients, providing them with personalized care. 🏥💖 🙌✨Amy Richards, a mum-of-three, has been using the QCAAU for three years and commends the staff for their expertise and kindness. Now cancer-free, Amy says: “I have every confidence in their expertise and professionalism and everyone is so welcoming and pleasant. “Instead of going to a GP who doesn’t know my history and might feel they have to start from the basics to get to an appropriate outcome, the staff in the unit know me, know my history and are the experts in cancer treatment and care and I have always been treated quickly in relation to issues linked to cancer-related treatment. "There’s continuity of care here and I have so much confidence in the unit. I’ve been incredibly well looked after throughout my treatment and ongoing care by my Oncology Consultant, all staff in the Queen’s Centre and linked specialities. “My appreciation and thanks for the services at the QCAAU, to Dr Mansoori and all of the staff here is immeasurable, as is the dedication and passion of the team of staff and volunteers.” 🙌✨ #HealthcareHeroes #CancerCare #NHSExpansion #PatientStory

  • Today we've officially unveiled our latest addition to the green fleet at Castle Hill Hospital - our quadracycle eCargo bike! Working in partnership with East Riding of Yorkshire Council, we're one of the first hospital sites in the country to trial one of these little green machines as we aim to increase sustainability and promote workforce wellbeing. Quadracycles operate in a similar way to an electric bike, whereby the user must pedal first in order to gain assistance from the electric motor. The bike will be in use for a trial period of 12 months, carrying linen, gas cylinders, other medical equipment and essentials around the 168-acre hospital site. If deemed successful, it will replace one of the site’s vans, reducing both carbon emissions and operational costs as well as increasing levels of physical activity in the workforce. Marc Beaumont, head of sustainability at the trust, said: “The eCargo bike is a fantastic addition to our fleet and will help to contribute to our net zero ambitions. “With its own solar field, Castle Hill is already leading the way when it comes to hospital sustainability, and we hope to use the electricity we generate ourselves to recharge the new eCargo bike batteries.”

  • 🔗 Organ Donation Initiative 🔗 Our dedicated specialist nurses in Hull - Helen Russell and Joanna Pancarowicz - are collaborating with Humberside Police to promote organ donation awareness. By holding training sessions, they aim to help police officers discuss tissue and ocular donation with families in a sensitive manner. Let's support this initiative and encourage more people to join the organ donor register. #OrganDonation #Healthcare #Collaboration #SaveLives #Hull #Humber #RemarkablePeople
