Signed, sealed, delivered! 💌 We were honored to a part of history this morning at the unveiling of the 2024 USPS Christmas Stamp, which features a painting from our very own collection, Madonna and Child from the Workshop of Sassoferrato (Italian, 1609-1685). The Madonna and Child stamp has been a beloved part of the Postal Service’s holiday stamp offerings for decades, featuring iconic images of the Virgin Mary and Child from various artistic traditions. The IMA's painting was featured on the cover of The Indianapolis Star Sunday Magazine in December of 1960. However, it had not been on view in the galleries since 1987, so the conservation stepped in to revitalize this vibrant 17th-century painting. You can view some of the conservation process on our Instagram page.🎨 Come see the original painting in the IMA Galleries, where it will be on view through the new year. While you're here, stop by The Museum & Garden Shop to pick up Madonna and Child Christmas cards for your holiday hellos! The Forever Stamp is sold in booklets of 20 from USPS. #NewfieldsToday #DiscoverNewfields #Conservation #PaintingConservation #Postage #ForeverStamp #ForeverStamps #Stamps #NoMoreBoringEnvelopes #MailLove #SendMoreMail #HappyMail #USPS #UnitedStatesPostalService #USPostalService @uspostalservice @indybaroque @linns_stamp_news @fljanetholcomb Workshop of Sassoferrato (Italian, 1609–1685), Madonna and Child, date unknown, oil on canvas, 25-1/8 × 18-13/16 in. We are thrilled to announce LeMonte Booker has been confirmed by the Board of Trustees as the incoming President and Chief Executive Officer at Newfields, assuming his duties in late October 2024. Coming from the Field Museum of Chicago, Booker has previously held roles in several senior management positions at large not-for-profit organizations including CFO for Easterseals, the American Academy of Pediatrics and a succession of positions at the Uhlich Childrens Advantage Network. “Mr. Booker possesses the right mindset, temperament, aptitude and leadership skills needed for this role. Mr. Booker stood out not only for meeting all of our initial search criteria, but also for bringing fresh perspectives we hadn’t previously considered to the process.” said the Chair of Newfields Board of Trustees, Darrianne Christian. "His extensive museum experience gives him a comprehensive understanding of how institutions like Newfields need to operate to thrive. He has a solid track record of strategically maximizing value for all stakeholders in a thoughtful and inclusive manner.” Learn more and read the full press release at discovernewfields.org. #DiscoverNewfields #NewfieldsToday

Newfields a Place for Nature & The Arts reposted this
I am so incredibly proud of our team's work at Newfields a Place for Nature & The Arts for the integration with Local Contexts's Notices and Labels in our CMS and online collection over the last couple of years and to be able to have helped facilitate Newfields' further support of this important work! My never-ending thanks to: Emma Carter, Samantha Norling, Jill Dodge, Jane Anderson, Gwen Saul, Stephany RunningHawk Johnson, Corrie Roe, and the many, many others that have been central to this work.
📣 Welcoming Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields as Founding Supporter Local Contexts has made great strides in our work to create a sustainable platform dedicated to supporting and promoting Indigenous data sovereignty. Today, we are thrilled to announce the Founding Supporter program and our first Founding Supporter, the Newfields a Place for Nature & The Arts. From Newfields Director of Legal Affairs and Intellectual Property Anne Young: “Collaborating with Indigenous communities is more important than ever as a core function of ethical collections stewardship. Through Newfields’ work to integrate the Local Contexts’ Notices and Labels, we are signaling our commitment to advance Indigenous intellectual property rights and to encourage Indigenous data sovereignty within cultural heritage institutions. To signify this commitment, the Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields is leading the field through this important Founding Supporter donation and remains grateful for the work of the Local Contexts team.” From Local Contexts Executive Director Stephany RunningHawk Johnson (Oglala Lakota Nation): “We are thankful to Newfields for their support of Local Contexts during our first year of operations. Their generosity in helping us grow and their partnership in our shared commitment to Indigenous data sovereignty is important and meaningful.” See a blog post and joint press release on our website. https://lnkd.in/eS_AeQPB https://lnkd.in/eSm8ena6 #Indigenous #IndigenousKnowledge #IndigenousRights #DataSovereignty #Newfields #Museum

Recently, Newfields was thrilled to award local Executive Director Mary Clark with the Modern Day May Award. This award is given to someone who embodies the values of May Wright Sewall, an educator and activist in Indianapolis during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Sewall’s activism laid the groundwork for Newfields’ values of excellence, stewardship, service, and inclusivity. Mary Clark, Executive Director at International Marketplace Coalition & Global Village Welcome Center, is a visionary leader and well-deserved winner of the Modern Day May Award. We're so grateful for the work she's putting into the community! #DiscoverNewfields #NewfieldsToday #ModernDayMay #MayWrightSewall

The Annual Meeting is a time for us to come together and reflect on the past year as we get excited for things on the horizon. The Annual Meeting always serves as a reminder that we would not be able to put on unique exhibitions, exceptional events, state-of-the-art programming, or other experiences that we create here at Newfields without your continued support and transformational generosity. The Modern-Day May Award was presented to Mary Clark, founder of the International Marketplace Coalition, a local proponent of equality and inclusivity known for service through social reforms and excellence in arts and culture. Newfields Community Engagement Managers Julianne Miller and Clarence Cannon were recognized for their incredible impact in the community with the Community Engagement Champion Award. We're so proud of them and excited about the relationships they continue to cultivate. Thank you to the 300 guests who joined us! We invite you to visit the Newfields campus and explore art and nature for yourself - head to discovernewfields.org today. #DiscoverNewfields #NewfieldsToday #AnnualMeeting
