In 1992, the Miami Heat had a photoshoot with the New World Symphony and Michael Tilson Thomas at the Lincoln Theatre. Ted Arison, our co-founder, was dedicated to making South Florida a global destination through his support of the arts and athletics. He founded NWS in 1987 and the Miami Heat in 1988. The New World Center features the Rooftop Garden with the adjacent Jane and Gerald Katcher Donor Lounge. Situated on the sixth level of the building, views from the garden include Biscayne Bay, the Atlantic Ocean, SoundScape Park and the buildings of South Beach. Day to night, this outdoor space is great for brunches, dinners, and parties under the stars. The Thomashefskys, a project close to Michael Tilson Thomas’ heart, recounted the incredible story of his grandparents, Bessie and Boris Thomashefsky — legends of the Yiddish stage. First performed at the Lincoln Theatre, it was later reprised and filmed at the New World Center in 2011 to even greater acclaim.
