About us
NASW is the largest organization of professional social workers with over 150,000 members. The Ohio Chapter has around 4,000 members from all 88 counties. The Ohio Chapter is divided into 8 regions: Region 1 (Toledo Area); Region 2 (Akron Area); Region 3 (Cleveland Area); Region 4 (Youngstown Area); Region 5 (Columbus Area); Region 6 (Cincinnati Area); Region 7 (Dayton Area); and Region 8 (Canton Area). NASW’s primary functions include promoting the professional development of its members, establishing and maintaining professional standards of practice, advancing sound social policies, and providing services that protect its members and enhance their professional status. The Association developed and adopted the NASW Code of Ethics and other generalized and specialized practice standards. Certification and quality assurance are promoted through the Academy of Certified Social Workers (ACSW), the NASW Register of Clinical Social Workers, and the Diplomate in Clinical Social Work (DCSW). Among NASW’s political action programs are Political Action for Candidate Election (PACE) and Educational Legislative Action Network (ELAN). The Association also sponsors, through its 56 chapters in the U.S. and abroad, professional conferences and continuing education programs, and produces journals—such as the flagship Social Work—books, and major reference works for the profession.

Yesterday, 4/9/25, the Ohio House of Representatives passed their version of the State Operating Budget. This version of the budget includes multiple policy changes that target LGTBQ+ Ohioans. This budget will now head to the Senate, so now is the time to contact your Senators to advocate that these harmful policies are removed. Find your Senator at https://lnkd.in/e4rKBs3s.

HB 8, the "Unsafe Students Act" goes into effect today 4/9/25, though schools will have until 7/1/25 to have their policies in place. Today also notes the launch of a collaborative resource designed to help parents, students, educators, administrators, and allies advocate for best practices in their schools. The toolkit can be accessed at bit.ly/HB8-Toolkit. Please note that is simply a resource and should not be construed as legal advice.

NASW Ohio supports the series of demonstrations on April 5th to Take Action with HANDS OFF! On Saturday, April 5th, we're taking to the streets to fight back with a clear message: Hands off! This mass mobilization day is our message to the world that we do not consent to the destruction of our government and our economy for the benefit of billionaires. Alongside Americans across the country, we are marching, rallying, and protesting to demand a stop the chaos and build an opposition movement against the looting of our country. A core principle behind all Hands Off! events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values. Check out handsoff2025.com for more information. Hands Off Our Government Protests Saturday- Saturday, April 5, 2025. The Ohio Statehouse, 12:00–2:00 P.M. Can't make it to Columbus? No problem. Find a rally near you and make your voice heard. #advocacy #handsoff
