These are some of the ways you all described the 2024 total solar eclipse, which swept across North America exactly one year ago today! Glenn was the only NASA center in the eclipse path of totality on April 8, 2024, plunging into darkness for nearly four minutes as the face of the Sun was completely covered by the Moon. More than 35,000 of you (+Snoopy!) joined us at Great Lakes Science Center in downtown Cleveland to watch this dazzling celestial event. Our center's world-class test facilities and unrivaled expertise in power, propulsion, and communications are crucial to NASA’s missions to return humans the Moon–one of the stars of the show that day. Thanks to gravity, it's easy to measure fuel in tanks on Earth. But gauging how much fuel is floating around in a spacecraft's tank isn't so simple. A technology developed at NASA Glenn to solve this problem could pave the way for future space travel: https://lnkd.in/e2ihqgNT

The road to the Moon goes through Ohio: NASA Glenn gets big delivery for lunar exploration! ⚡🌙 Our center conducted the first electric propulsion mission in 1964 with the Space Electric Rocket Test (SERT). Decades later, we just received the first of three thrusters destined for the Gateway lunar space station. Over the next few months, we'll complete testing on these Advanced Electric Propulsion System (AEPS) thrusters that will help make Gateway the most powerful solar electric spacecraft ever flown. Built by L3Harris, the AEPS thrusters will integrate with Gateway’s Power and Propulsion Element and launch with the lunar station’s HALO (Habitation and Logistics Outpost) ahead of Artemis IV.
