About us
The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California is a cooperative of 26 cities and water agencies serving nearly 19 million people in six counties. The district imports water from the Colorado River and Northern California to supplement local supplies, and helps its members to develop increased water conservation, recycling, storage and other resource-management programs. Meet Kevin Webb, our Water Champion this week. Leading our Property Management Team, he plays a key role in taking care of Metropolitan's properties all the way from Palo Verde Valley to Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta. Metropolitan leverages the land it owns throughout California to conduct innovative programs and projects that benefit its Southern California service area. And Kevin leads the Property Management Team that manages those properties. In the Palo Verde Valley, where Metropolitan owns about 22,000 acres in the southeastern part of California along the Arizona border, the team manages leases with Metropolitan’s agricultural partners that incentivize water-saving farming practices to preserve Colorado River water. In the Sacramento-San Joaquin Bay Delta, Metropolitan owns five islands and tracts. This region is where about a third of Southern California’s water imports travel via the State Water Project. Kevin’s team manages those lands, where Metropolitan is leading programs and studies to restore the area’s delicate ecosystem and promote the health of the infrastructure that is so critical to the state’s water reliability. As Metropolitan continues its efforts to combat climate change and generate clean energy, the Property Management Team is also pursuing opportunities to lease its land to businesses focused on expanding clean energy projects. #WaterChampions

It was an exciting week for our workforce development team as they sparked conversations at career and resource fairs about job opportunities at Metropolitan. From discussing water industry careers with Palo Verde College teachers at a Career and Technical Education advisory committee in Blythe, to participating in a veteran's resource fair in partnership with the Employment Development Department - they're focused on spreading the word about careers in water. #WorkforceDevelopment #CareerOpportunities #ShapingTheFuture
