What is Hematuria? Hematuria is defined as the abnormal presence of blood in the urine. It is one of the most commonly diagnosed urological disorders, accounting for over 20% of all urological evaluations. In about 50% of cases, a specific cause of the hematuria can be identified, meaning no definite etiology can be determined about half the time. Gross hematuria is a common presentation in outpatient clinics and emergency departments that is treated by manually irrigating the bladder.
