We're taking the #Quantum show on the road to @HelenaCollege! Join Gallatin College and MSU's Science Math Resource Center for a Quantum Technologies Experience at Helena College's Airport Campus Lecture Hall on Friday, Feb. 21. The experience will include discussion of quantum technologies in the Gallatin Valley and across Montana, training and education programs available, sample labs, demonstrations of quantum concepts, career information, and more. This event is intended to outreach to Helena College students, faculty, staff, and community to bring education and awareness about emerging quantum workforce development. Food is provided. Montana’s universities are some of MPQA’s biggest community partners. As such, we are excited to announce that the Science Math Resource Center (SMRC) based at Montana State University (MSU) is officially an MPQA member. For five decades, the Science Math Resource Center has been a gateway for students to reach for the stars in STEM fields. SMRC’s legacy of supporting trailblazing programs such as the Montana Science Olympiad, Montana Math Circle, the Montana Girls STEM Collaborative and the MSU Citizen Science Network, and MSU’s QCORE Education and Workforce Development programming. By offering STEM programs for under-served students, schools, and communities, as well as professional development for STEM educators, SMRC is shaping the future of industries like computer science, engineering, photonics, and optics. Congratulations to our SMRC student intern Aleisha Dutton, who will be recognized next month among the top 40 seniors at Montana State University! Aleisha will be recognized on Friday, Feb. 14, at the 43rd annual Founder’s Day Awards for Student Excellence and represents the Jake Jabs School of Business and Entrepreneurship. Honored students are nominated by faculty in their colleges or departments. Qualified nominees must have at least a 3.0 GPA and demonstrated campus leadership and community service. This program is designed to share geospatial skills with high school-aged students, and it is highly customizable to fit the needs, interests and assets of your community. One of the numerous joys of my job is being the club advisor for the Aspiring Educators of MSU. Last night, they hosted an amazing Teacher Panel featuring NINE local teachers who shared their thoughts on important skills to learn, work-life balance, connecting with students and so much more. Aspiring Educators are future teachers who are dedicated to learning about the profession through networking, professional development and strengthening their connections with the National Education Association and the Montana Federation of Public Employees.
