The war in Sudan—a war on people—is entering its third year. About 13 million people have been displaced by the conflict, according to the UN. Of these, 8.9 million remain displaced inside Sudan, while 3.9 million have crossed into neighboring countries. Many live in overcrowded camps or makeshift shelters, without access to food, water, health care, or a sense of the future. People depend entirely on humanitarian organizations—but organizations are not responding everywhere. We call on the warring parties to lift humanitarian restrictions and grant unhindered access. MSF urges all actors—including donors, governments, and UN agencies—to enable and prioritize aid delivery, ensuring that assistance not only reaches people in need but is transported swiftly and safely to the hardest-hit and most remote communities. The people of Sudan have endured this horror for too long. They cannot and should not wait any longer to access essential needs. #SudanCantWait #TalkAboutSudan https://lnkd.in/e4eMGZP9

In this video, Stephen Cornish, general director of Médecins Sans Frontières (Switzerland), reflects on his most recent visit to some of our projects in Sudan and Chad. We need to #TalkAboutSudan. It’s been two years of a devastating war — a war on people. Our teams in Sudan are treating war-wounded patients with catastrophic injuries and providing humanitarian aid and medical care in refugee camps and displacement sites, where people are living in poor conditions and lack adequate health care and basic needs. More than 12 million people have been displaced by the current conflict, including over 3 million people who have fled to neighboring countries such as Chad, Egypt, and South Sudan.

It’s been two years of war in Sudan. #TalkAboutSudan Hundreds of thousands of people have been forced to flee to the Nuba Mountains region of South Kordofan in southern Sudan. Our teams are supporting several hospitals and medical facilities in the region, where displaced people arrive daily. The harrowing story in this video was recounted by one of our patients. An estimated 11 million people have been displaced since the war between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces started in April 2023 and spread across Sudan. Colombia is experiencing its most intense upsurge of conflict in years, with 11 active pockets of violence between armed groups. Conflict has not only cut off essential care for thousands of people, but has also exacerbated humanitarian needs, especially in hard-to-reach communities. Our response: MSF teams have launched an emergency response in the Catatumbo region and a long-term project in Arauca state focused on people who face severe constraints in accessing health care. https://bit.ly/3G6QJEb

A beautiful moment with mom Yvane and her newborn in southern Haiti💕 This is her seventh child. After awareness sessions with MSF, she chose to give birth at Rendel Health Center. Due to the lack of functional health facilities, some women travel long distances to give birth. The 2021 earthquake particularly affected the southern part of the country, damaging many health facilities. The maternal health situation in Haiti remains concerning. To reduce pregnancy-related risks, MSF’s health promotion teams organize daily community awareness sessions in surrounding villages about the importance of prenatal consultations. They also explain how giving birth in health centers means medical staff support the wellbeing of pregnant women and babies if complications arise during delivery. Without transportation, Yvane's neighbors and son helped her walk for an hour to the maternity ward. “Despite the pain, I didn’t want to give birth at home. I received a lot of care and feel much more reassured."

We mourn our colleague Hussam Al Loulou, killed in a strike on the morning of April 1 southwest of Deir al-Balah, central Gaza, along with his wife and 28-year-old daughter. He was 58 years old. Hussam is one of hundreds of people across the Gaza Strip who have been killed since the ceasefire collapsed with the resumption of attacks by Israeli forces on March 18. This is the second killing of an MSF colleague in just two weeks. Our full statement: https://bit.ly/4jotbJn

Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières - USA reposted this
Our Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) teams in Myanmar — medical, water and sanitation, and logistics staff — are in areas devastated by the powerful earthquake. The scale of the destruction is becoming clearer. MSF continues to assess the ability of hospitals and other health structures to manage much needed emergency trauma care. We want to be where needs are the greatest. In this interview, I explained to Mohammed Jamjoom we are concerned about people who, after losing shelter, are now vulnerable and may not have access to health care. Safe drinking water — crucial to control the possible spread of waterborne, vector-borne, or endemic diseases — is severely lacking.
