I'm currently reading a book called The Growth Leader by Scott Edinger.
While having breakfast the other day and reading a new chapter, I came across a great quote.
"Get the right people on the bus. The idea is that if you focus on "first who then what," no matter what chaos or uncertainty your business faces, no matter the challenges, you'll be facing it with the right people in the right seats."
I believe this wholeheartedly.
When your focus in hiring is on:
The Cognitive Mind (skills, abilities, experience, etc.)
The Affective Mind (wants, desires, motivations, emotions)
You aren't guaranteeing you're getting the right people on the bus.
You must, and I must stress this, look at the 3rd part of the mind, The Conative Part of the Mind.
If you don't understand a candidate's Instinctual Tendencies, you are essentially making a gamble that they are the right hire.
Get the right people on the bus, then watch your business grow.
