Throughout February, Metro honored #BlackHistoryMonth. Metro Councilor Simpson and Metro Black Employee Resource Group celebrated with a community coffee hour where staff, elected officials and greater Portland area business leaders connected and shared perspectives. A Metro Council Proclamation officially acknowledging the invaluable contributions of Black Americans followed. It may be the last day of Black History Month 2025, but Metro is always dedicated to addressing systemic barriers and committing to actionable change. In the words of Councilor Simpson, “American culture is Black culture. American history is Black history.”
