We are proud to share Metro Ontario and Food Basics stores in the Mississauga area donated over $55,300 to Food Banks Mississauga as part of our Third Annual Healthy Together campaign which raised $3.1 million for food banks across Ontario, Quebec and New Brunswick this past holiday season. Our Metro Ontario and Food Basics stores in the Ottawa area donated over $131,000 to the Ottawa Food Bank. These are just a couple of examples of the campaign’s success which was driven by the generosity of our Metro and Food Basics customers and the efforts our store teams make at the local level. Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make a difference in our communities.

Supporting Canadian products and buying local is not a new concept for Metro. For many years, we've made it a point to identify and promote Ontario products in our stores, notably through our Locally Sourced program, partnerships with organisations like Foodland Ontario, and more. Over the past few weeks, we have worked to optimize the visibility of Ontario and Canadian products at Metro. Happening now, Metro.ca features a Made in Canada landing page, a weekly newsletter featuring new promotions on local products, and local products will be identified in our weekly paper and digital flyers. We are also accelerating a new in-store program to label individual products with provincial and Canadian identification, indicating whether they are produced, manufactured or grown in Canada or Ontario. We will continue to give priority to local and Canadian products whenever possible while ensuring our customers find the products they want, according to their values, budget and preferences.

We’re proud to be part of the Reuse Ottawa pilot program, a pioneering initiative to reduce single-use plastics in the food retail and service industry. The two-year program, is led by the Circular Innovation Council, supported by the Government of Canada and the City of Ottawa, and in collaboration with key partners like Sobeys/Farm Boy, Walmart Canada, Reusables.com, Gate Gourmet, and Snelling/Bunzl. The pilot aims to provide a scalable and convenient solution to single-use plastic packaging. It is the first of its kind in Canada and marks a significant step towards sustainable shopping solutions. At Metro Southgate in Ottawa, we’re now offering reusable containers in our deli department along with a designated drop-off spot to easily return containers. Customers can enjoy these containers at no cost, with single-use options still available for those who prefer them. Together, we’re committed to expanding this initiative and making a positive impact on our environment and communities. #ReuseOttawa #CircularEconomy

The "Minute with Metro" series aims to highlight our dedicated in-store employees who make Metro special. It provides customers with a glimpse of the people behind the counters, allowing them to discover the stories, hard work and faces of those who work every day to serve them. In previous editions, viewers had the chance to hear from Sonya and Mark, who both shared their stories and long-lasting relationships with METRO and its customers. Today, we are thrilled to announce the third installment to our “Minute with Metro” social series, featuring our very own Jessica from the Bakery department at Metro Amberlea in Pickering. Watch it now, and learn how Jessica isn’t just a “champion” in baking warm cookies! You can watch the latest video, and many more, on our social media channels. After four years, Metro is back in Ottawa’s ByWard Market, opening our brand-new store, the 132nd store for the banner. The store has hired a team of 125 employees and features products and services tailored to the needs of the community. The store has officially been named Metro Rideau while the decor features photos of local landmarks to pay tribute to the surrounding community. To emphasize our commitment to playing an active role in our communities, Metro donated $10,000 the Ottawa Food Bank, a partner of Feed Ontario, to help support those in need. Thank you to everyone who made this grand opening a huge success!
