Smartphone advancements have largely become incremental, particularly in hardware. 🥱 As Manas Tiwari aptly puts it in this article, "For those of us who remember the thrill of seeing something truly new, this era of iterative upgrades feels… dull." We couldn’t agree more- and we are changing all that! 🌟 At Metalenz, we’re redefining what’s possible with Polar ID—introducing groundbreaking hardware to smartphones for the first time in a decade and pioneering a new form of sensing in consumer electronics. 🚀 Rather than making marginal improvements, Polar ID unlocks entirely new capabilities, from skin health monitoring to air quality detection, all while delivering seamless, payment-grade face authentication. #Innovation #Smartphones #FutureTech #mobiletechnology #MWC25 #techtrends #PolarID #metasurfaceoptics https://lnkd.in/gvnj2QZm

Face unlock with Polar ID is an optical sensing upgrade for consumer devices. Better, more accurate information in=better, more efficient decisions out. Thanks to Brandon Holly-Overton (Derrek Lee) at Android Central for adding us to your cool list. 😎 Payment grade security you can trust, now affordable (and tiny) enough to implement on all phones. 💪 https://lnkd.in/eTqFSmkX #weirdinagoodway #faceunlock #digitalidentity #mobile #biometrics MWC Barcelona

Our spooky-realistic model of CEO Rob Devlin, aka “Bobby” certainly turned some heads, but is no match for Polar ID. 🔒 Thanks Julian Chokkattu at WIRED for featuring us among the weird and ingenious at MWC Barcelona 🤳 The head is fake, but our secure and affordable Android solution for face unlock is very real! https://lnkd.in/ecUCnQKt #PolarID #MWC #faceauthentication #scarygood #faceunlock #unlocktheunseen

🎉 MWC Day 3! Its been a fun few days packed with meetings and demos of Polar ID. Optica CTO Jose Pozo stopped by for an in-depth interview with Rob Devlin (and “Bobby”, although he isn’t really a big talker ;)) Watch to see Polar ID in action and learn some of the key advantages of our unique technology (hint: performance, manufacturing, size, and cost 🤩 ) #unlocktheseen
POLAR ID metalenz DEMO AND DISCUSSION AT MWC BARCELONA 2025. There may be 110,000 people coming to the Mobile World Congress this week. But this invitation from Rob Devlin, Founder and CEO of Boston based metalenz was personal, designed to share ideas with other Optica corporate members. Apart from the demo, in our extended deep-tech interview Robert shares what's happened in the last couple of years, why their process is different, and the development and launch of their Polar ID sensing system. Their metasurface (or metalens) technology is rapidly becoming a game-changer for the optical industry. From invention in the Capasso lab at Harvard, to high volume production ready in the semiconductor foundry, Metalenz is enabling proliferation of compact advanced sensing in mobile and beyond. You will notice 2 "Roberts" in the video. metalenz has developed the world’s only consumer-scale imaging system that can sense the full polarization state of light; Polar ID enables the next level of biometric security. Using breakthrough advances in meta-optic capability, Polar ID accurately captures the unique “polarization signature” of a human face. With this additional layer of information, even the most sophisticated 3D masks (like the lookalike on the table) and spoof instruments are immediately detected as non-human. Polar ID harnesses meta-optic technology to extract additional information such as facial contour details and to detect human tissue liveness from a single image. We hope Robert can join us for the Global Advanced Manufacturing Alliance meeting at Heidelberg Instruments. For more information about this important meeting, check this link https://lnkd.in/dQJMnVCF or reach out to my Optica Colleague Olga Raz.

“As more of our day-to-day activities become digital, proving ‘you are you’ becomes more crucial than ever – and commerce sits at the center.” 🔐 Passkeys are gaining traction as a convenient solution, but in order to work, they must team up with a biometric system… “Every smartphone in the last 10 years that it shipped has had some kind of on-device biometric capability.” 🌟 …But not all are created equal – not even close. Polar ID delivers seamless face unlock that works in all conditions for all phones with no compromise between convenience and security.
