About us

Vision: One school, one community, one city - the world intersects at Meridian. Meridian Public Charter School was founded by a dedicated group of volunteers in 1999, making it one of the oldest continually operating charter schools in Washington, DC. From our humble beginnings above a laundromat to our current operations across two full campuses, Meridian has maintained a commitment to excellence for our students, many of whom are far from opportunity. Meridian is the first EL Education partner school to not start as an EL Education school, making it a unique offering for families in the city and a place where there is true commitment to our shared ideals. Grades: PK3 - 8th grade Number of Students: Approximately 600 from all 8 wards of DC, with about half coming from within a mile of one of our two campuses. Student-to-teacher ratio: 8:1 (average classroom size around 17) PreKindergarten: Meridian uses a highly-acclaimed play-based curriculum in its PreK classrooms, and is consistently rated as one of the strongest PreK programs in the city according to the CLASS accountability scores produced every year. Accreditation: Meridian is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.
