  • Med Center Health recognized its second Certified Health Care Environmental Services Technicians (CHEST) on March 21. Varnado Mitchell, Belinda Fox, Teresa Law, Winnie Beckman and Yam Darjee participated in the CHEST program at The Medical Center at Bowling Green and successfully completed the certification exam. The CHEST program pairs quality education for high-performing healthcare environmental services professionals with evidence-based training sessions. The program covers all aspects of a frontline worker’s typical tasks and accountabilities. This includes infection prevention, disinfection, communication, safety, waste and linen handling, and floor care. These team members completed a total of 24 hours of education before taking the certification exam. The CHEST certification is offered through the Association for the Health Care Environment and is recognized by the American Hospital Association. Med Center Health used a train-the-trainer approach with all training performed in-house by Jonathan who is a certified trainer.

  • Congratulations to Millie Caffey, Clinical Outcomes Specialist, on receiving the KHA (Kentucky Hospital Association) Patient Safety Hero Award from the KHA Quality Department. This award is given to individuals who uncover new methods of quality improvement and patient safety, train staff member(s) on the importance of patient safety, and/or prevent harm from a patient at risk. Casey Franklin, Associate Vice President of Quality and Health Professions, and Jessica Covington, Quality Program Pharmacist, presented the award Monday morning at The Medical Center at Bowling Green. "Millie is dedicated to helping our staff provide safe, quality care. Leaders, providers, and staff find her to be approachable and have trust in the work that she does. She advocates for the patients as well as the bedside nurse. As the leader of our CAUTI workgroup, she has been instrumental in the progress made with our reduction of CAUTIs. She has helped champion a "Ticket to Ride" process to help standardize the transporting and handoff process of patients throughout the hospital. Millie works with her fellow nurses to help understand barriers, be a resource, and educate when needed. She is constantly seeking to understand and provide feedback. She is an asset to our hospital and our community. If I had a loved one in the hospital, I would want Millie as part of the care team." - Nominated by Ashely Hittson
