About us

Welcome to McKinley – Where Hope Illuminates Our Path! At McKinley, we are guided by the HUMAN values that resonate deeply within us. We are a team made up of compassionate individuals. We exemplify being HOPEFUL. We are UNDERSTANDING. We are MORAL, by treating everyone with respect. We are AWESOME, by recognizing the unique qualities in each person. We are NURTURING, to those in our communities who are in need of support or specialized care. Our organization believes in healing through connection. Our trauma-informed approach acknowledges the resilience within every individual, empowering them to harness the strength of their natural support systems. Originally founded as a residential facility for orphaned children over a century ago, we have grown and evolved into a multifaceted organization dedicated to improving the lives of children and families in our community. Mission: By inspiring hope, McKinley helps youth, families, adults and communities aspire to their highest potential through impactful services provided by a team of compassionate professionals fueled by our H.U.M.A.N. values. Our goal is healing, growing, and thriving together! We accomplish this by serving Southern California through multiple locations and a diverse range of programs, including Behavioral Health, Special Education, Foster Care and Adoptions, Residential Care, and a Shelter Program that reunites immigrant children with their families. Each of our programs embodies our unwavering commitment to building a brighter, more inclusive future. Side by side, we pave the way for transformation, one life at a time. We invite you to join us on our journey of hope, compassion, and transformation. Together, we can create a brighter future for our youth, families, and communities. Let's live the HUMAN values that will shape a better world!

  • Insurance Crisis. Services on the Line. 9,700 Youth at Risk. “Our new insurance policies took effect April 1 of this year. This is not something that is usually noteworthy, but sadly in today’s landscape, the process became far more complex than it should have been. I am grateful to our brokers Marsh McLennan Agency for their diligence in searching the market to find the best solutions for us. Like many nonprofits serving at-risk children and youth, McKinley is navigating a dramatically shrinking insurance market. Fewer carriers are willing to insure nonprofit organizations, and those that remain are charging significantly higher premiums, often for less coverage. The simple reality is that the insurance system for human services is breaking down. Nonprofits are being forced to confront program downsizing and closures, not because of mission failure, but because of the cost and availability of insurance. It doesn’t have to be this way. Very sensible reform can improve this situation dramatically. If you’re a policymaker, provider, advocate, or simply someone who cares about protecting services for vulnerable youth, your voice matters. Reach out to your state legislators, share this message, and help us raise awareness. If you’d like to learn more or get involved, feel free to message me directly. I’d be happy to connect.” — Anil Vadaparty, CEO of McKinley Anil's words underscore a growing crisis affecting nonprofits everywhere: insurance is no longer a given, it’s a barrier to providing crucial services. We’re proud of our team and our broker partners who fought hard to keep McKinley’s doors open and our services protected. But the system is failing. 💡 Let’s raise our collective voice. Advocate for reform. Stand with nonprofits. Help protect services that vulnerable youth depend on. 📽️ And stay tuned, we’re sitting down with Anil Vadaparty for a special interview soon to spotlight the insurance crisis. #PolicyReform #AdvocacyMatters #InsuranceCrisis #YouthServices #McKinleyMission
