✨April spotlight organization incoming!✨ For our Mass Pro Bono April spotlight, we are highlighting pro bono opportunities with Community Legal Aid! CLA is the free civil legal aid provider for low-income and elderly residents of Central and Western Massachusetts (Berkshire, Franklin, Hampden, Hampshire, and Worcester counties). CLA’s Pro Bono programs greatly enhance our ability to make justice real for our clients. CLA Pro Bono refers hundreds of cases a year to attorneys from all over the Commonwealth with all levels of experience working in private practice and corporations. Whether you are a solo practitioner or part of a large firm, you can make justice real for an individual or family living in poverty. Currently recruiting volunteers for our Pro Bono Family Law Clinic (virtual and in-person), Housing Court LFD program (in-person), Small Claims LFD Program (virtual), and assistance with Basic Estate Planning, Chapter 7 Bankruptcies, and Plaintiff-side Employment cases. Don’t live in Central or Western Massachusetts? No problem – we offer many virtual options for our Boston-area volunteers! All cases are screened for merit by CLA staff and then assigned to a CLA Pro Bono Coordinator who provides ongoing support to our volunteers. CLA provides trainings, resources, and language access services, in addition to offering liability insurance to all volunteers. De Novo provides legal help in the areas of housing and homelessness prevention, family law/domestic violence, immigration law, and disability benefits, as well as a full range of mental health services and case management to help clients cope with the emotional impact of trauma. De Novo has a range of pro bono cases available, from very basic to complex. Volunteers may handle all or part of a case, depending on their availability, expertise, and interests. At De Novo’s monthly immigration clinic and family law clinic, volunteer attorneys provide brief advice, screen for legal needs, and refer to additional legal resources.
