About us
At the Lowe's Foundation, our mission is focused on closing the skilled trades labor gap across the United States. The Lowe’s Foundation Gable Grants program is a 5-year, $50 million commitment to train 50,000 job-ready skilled tradespeople to build a stronger infrastructure that supports our communities for the long term. We recently announced three national partners who are joining our 2023 Gable Grants, who are delivering innovative and scalable skilled trades training in local communities nationwide. Across the nation, our Gable Grants recipients are supported by their local Lowe’s store and connected with a “store captain.” Today we’d like to highlight Lindsay Shields, Lowe’s district Pro and services support manager and store captain for Ivy Tech Community College in Indiana. "My stores try to support in any way they can,” Lindsay says, "We’ve had some opportunities for employment and also help support Ivy Tech and their graduates with products for their trade." Thank you, Lindsay, for your support of our #GableGrants recipients! #SkilledTrades #LowesFoundation

“When we get it right, we’re not just filling jobs — we’re changing lives,” says Lanna Hubbard, dean of instruction at Howard Community College, a Lowe’s Foundation grant recipient. Lanna has helped reshape how students, faculty and employers experience trades education. A strong trades program isn’t just about the training — it’s about job placement. That means building trust with employers and aligning expectations. “At the end of the day, employers want skilled, job-ready workers — we're ensuring they get exactly that,” says Lanna. By strengthening employer relationships, supporting students as whole individuals and helping faculty transition from working on the jobsite to teaching in the classroom, Lanna ensures that Howard College’s programs not only train the next generation of skilled trades workers but transform lives.
