State Civil Service is the central human resources agency for the state of Louisiana. We promote the understanding that the most critical factor in determining the success of Louisiana state government is its workforce. Our chief responsibility is to ensure the state is equipped with innovative workforce solutions designed to meet the unique needs of each state agency’s mission. As both a regulatory and consultative agency, we provide systems and services that will enable state agencies to make merit-based, quality decisions regarding the hiring, development and retention of skilled and capable individuals. Team members from our department participated in the Opportunity@Work convening earlier this month, alongside The Volcker Alliance and Third Sector, bringing state leaders together for an inspiring week in DC! As part of the Transformers in the Public Sector cohort, we collaborated with Arizona, California, Colorado, and Utah to continue the drive to skills-first hiring. Proud to support Opportunity@Work in leading this crucial shift in the public sector alongside other states doing some great work! #EveryDayForEveryCitizen #lagov
Opportunity@Work, alongside The Volcker Alliance and Third Sector, brought together state leaders in skills first hiring for an electrifying week in Washington, DC. As the leaders behind The Transformers in the Public Sector cohort, we convened leaders from State of Arizona, State of California, State of Colorado, State of Louisiana, and State of Utah to collaborate, learn, and network. We brought in experts to support these state leaders on change management, building subject-matter assessments into hiring, using data to drive skills-first talent practices, and organizing around various skills taxonomies- critical levers in building a skills-first workforce that works for all workers in America. We also facilitated cross-state collaboration in the convening, where states began crafting concrete implementation roadmaps to bring skills-first hiring to life in their agencies. Opportunity@Work is proud to lead the charge in supporting skills first hiring in the public sector. We’re not just starting conversations—we’re driving real, lasting change. And with these powerhouse states on board, we’re hopeful and optimistic about the future of skills first hiring in the public sector.
