🎉 Wrapping Up an Incredible 2024 at LNK Pharmacy Solutions! 🎉 This year has been a milestone year for us at LNK Pharmacy Solutions. We started 2024 with just one clinic partner, Pioneer Heart Institute, and have grown to include Community Medical Center-Falls City and Nebraska Pulmonary Specialties. This expansion brought us from servicing 8 providers to an incredible 45 providers across three clinics from July 2023 to present — each making a significant impact on their patients and communities, especially rural and underserved populations. Together, we’ve handled a staggering 3,937 pharmacy-related requests that showcase our dedication to simplifying healthcare and advocating for patients and providers. Breaking Down the Numbers ✅ Standard Approvals (1,674): Routine prior authorizations approved after initial submission, ensuring patients receive their medications quickly. 📜 Appeal Approvals (219): Successfully overturned insurance denials, securing critical medications for patients through meticulous appeals and peer-to-peer reviews. 🚫 Denials (220): The majority of denials were related to GLP-1 therapy for weight loss due to insurance policies. Providers and patients were promptly informed of the outcomes, and we offered lifestyle, diet, and exercise resources to support patient health goals when medication coverage wasn’t an option. 🔍 No PA Needed (1,792): This is where the LNK difference shines. These requests began as prior authorizations but were resolved without needing one. Why? Preferred Therapeutic Interchange: Our expertise allows us to identify formulary-preferred alternatives with equal efficacy, communicate options to providers, and educate patients on the changes—saving weeks of delays. Pharmacy Error Fixes: Whether it’s a missing DAW code, incorrect NDC code, or improperly processed insurance claims, our team steps in to resolve issues that would otherwise leave requests unresolved. Proactive Triage: Every request is reviewed in detail. Instead of blindly submitting a PA, we investigate the root cause and provide the fastest, most efficient solution to eliminate delays. 💊 Clinical Requests (32): These represent complex cases requiring in-depth clinical pharmacy expertise, showcasing our team’s ability to solve high-level medication and insurance challenges. At LNK Pharmacy Solutions, we believe that behind every medication denial lies an opportunity to uncover gaps, advocate for patients, and empower them with education. We recently worked on a challenging case where a patient struggling with uncontrolled asthma symptoms was denied coverage for their maintenance inhaler, Breztri. The plan stated that patient must try and fail all preferred alternatives Advair Diskus, Symbicort, Dulera, and Trelegy. Our clinical expertise flagged two critical issues: Advair Diskus and Trelegy (both dry powder inhalers, DPIs) were inappropriate options. The patient had previously developed a sore throat while on Advair, making Trelegy contraindicated. The remaining alternatives (Symbicort and Dulera) lacked the triple therapy that Breztri provides, making them inadequate options for this patient’s severe symptoms. Instead of stopping there, we reached out directly to the patient to see if other therapies have been trialed in the past so we could provide accurate documentation to the plan — and the conversation uncovered even more: The patient had been misusing her inhalers. She relied heavily on her albuterol rescue inhaler, using it 6 times a day for months, while only using Advair Diskus and Breztri “every now and then.” Patient endorsed significant issues with anxiety, chest pain, tachycardia, and tremors. The Advair Diskus was causing more harm than good due to its side effect of sore throat. Through targeted education, we addressed the following: ✅ Explained the inappropriateness of Advair Diskus for this patient and clarified that Breztri contains triple therapy, covering all the necessary ingredients in Advair Diskus. ✅ Highlighted the difference between rescue inhalers (albuterol) and maintenance inhalers, reinforcing that Breztri is essential for daily use to prevent exacerbations. ✅ Educated the patient about the side effects of overusing albuterol (tachycardia, chest pain, anxiety, and tremors). A New Plan Moving Forward: Stop Advair Diskus completely. Use Breztri daily as prescribed until her follow-up appointment. Reserve albuterol only for emergency situations. The patient confirmed understanding through a teach-back method and expressed appreciation for the call. Our work isn’t done. We continue advocating for Breztri approval, ensuring the insurance plan understands that the listed alternatives are clinically inappropriate for this patient’s needs. This case highlights exactly why LNK exists. We fight insurance barriers, provide expert education to patients, and close communication gaps so providers can focus on care, ALL WITHIN THE SAME DAY. 🌟 **Making an Impact Where It Matters Most** 🌟  At LNK Pharmacy Solutions, our mission is simple: ensure patients get the care and medications they need to thrive, not just survive. This week, we were reminded of why we do what we do.  A recent patient, post-hospitalization for a pulmonary embolism (PE), called in distress—the patient's life-saving blood thinner was too expensive, leaving patient unable to afford it. Without proper anticoagulation therapy, the risk of returning to the hospital, or worse, was imminent.  That’s when our co-founder, Abe, stepped in. Leveraging his expertise and determination, Abe quickly got the patient on a free trial card and secured long-term support through a patient assistance program. Thanks to this quick action, the patient avoided a dangerous gap in therapy and is now on a sustainable path with the right treatment.  This success is not just a win for the patient but a powerful example of what LNK Pharmacy Solutions is here to achieve—bridging gaps in care, breaking down access barriers, and ensuring no patient falls through the cracks.  💬 Abe Karimi, your passion and leadership shine bright. The LNK team has been busy improving and expanding our services. We figured it was time to give an update on what we have accomplished and what we are working towards into the future. Since starting operations in June of 2023, we have made significant strides in improving medication access via prior authorization streamlining, financial assistance consulting, drug information consulting and patient education. Please see figure below for a snapshot of our recent achievements and what we’re looking forward to in the future. 🔍 Understanding the Data: Standard Approval: This represents the approvals received through the regular prior authorization (PA) process without any need for further appeals or interventions. Appeal Approval: These are the requests initially denied but later approved upon peer-to-peer or an appeal, demonstrating our commitment to ensuring patients receive medically necessary medications. Denials: The majority of these denials were due to contract exclusions of medications based on patients' prescriptions. We resolved these either by patients electing to pay cash or understanding they didn’t qualify for the medication but wanted to try. No PA Needed: These include all requests triaged either before submission of a PA or during the PA process. This involves alternative medication changes based on formulary coverage and individualized solutions provided outside of the PA process. Future Outlook: As we continue to grow and improve our processes, we are excited to expand into phase 2 of our business plan timeline. Our goal is to become the go-to resource for all pharmacy-related issues for both patients and providers, ensuring seamless and efficient medication management, and continuity of care.
