Andrew Hagewood was born with Noonan syndrome, a genetic condition, and needed a heart transplant as a baby. At Vanderbilt University Medical Center, he set a record: 50 days on ECMO, the machine that kept him alive as he waited for a lifesaving transplant. His condition was so fragile that one day, doctors told Andrew’s family they could no longer hold Andrew. That same day, his mom and dad, Christy and Keith Hagewood, received the message they’d been waiting for: a heart was on its way. Throughout Andrew’s journey, Christy shared his story and updates on Facebook. The response was overwhelming—prayers and well-wishes poured in from around the world. Keith and Christy even hung a map in Andrew’s hospital room and marked the location of each message of support, every highlight a reminder that they weren’t alone. When Andrew finally came home, it was a celebration like no other. Their entire community lined the streets, singing, cheering, and giving thanks. Andrew, now 11 years old, loves sports, especially Buddy Baseball—a league for kids with special needs where every player has a buddy to help. Even in joy, Andrew’s mom reflects on the bittersweet truth of Andrew’s transplant. "While we celebrate, another family is grieving. We are forever grateful to them for the gift they gave us." When you become an organ, eye and tissue donor, your story continues. ♾️ Register your decision at MyStoryContinues.com. #YourStoryContinues #LifeLinkInfinity #FacesofTransplantation
