⛈️ Within the framework of the European LIFE COSTAdapta project, we continue to make steady progress in the design of innovative solutions to protect the Canary Islands coasts from the growing impact of climate change. Our objective is clear: to reduce coastal erosion without interfering with the quality of the waves, relying on an infrastructure based on natural principles like our tidal pool-reefs, which act in a way that respects the environment. 💙 This project has been endorsed by the European Union and is based on rigorous scientific studies, empirical data, hydrodynamic simulations and a process of active listening with all stakeholders in the area. We know that there are concerns about the impact on sporting activities and biodiversity, so we want to stress that every step of the design is being evaluated in detail, including modelling, topographical surveys and technical validations at different times of the year. 🤝 In addition, we have held meetings with neighbours, municipal representatives and the surfing sector, integrating their input and needs into the evolution of the demonstrator. 🔍 LIFE COSTAdapta is a climate adaptation project that focuses on sustainability, citizen participation and the protection of natural and human heritage. 💧Led by CABILDO DE GRAN CANARIA with participation from FINNOVA FOUNDATION, Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Fundación para el Desarrollo Sostenible, Canarias Recicla , Ingecid, RALEY Estudios Costeros, ECOncrete Universidad de Cantabria Consejo Insular de la Energía de Gran Canaria 👉 To learn more about LIFE COSTAdapta, check out our new press release: https://lnkd.in/eKJyHssT #LIFECOSTAdapta #LIFEAmplifiers #EUGreenDeal #ClimateChange #Sustainability #GranCanaria #ReefTidalPools #Coasts #Tourism #Economy #CoastalAdaptation #CanaryIslands

🌍On World Health Day, we are reminded that the health of the people starts with the environment we live in. 🌀Today, April 7, coincides with a pre-alert for coastal phenomena in the Canary Islands, issued by the regional government due to the strong waves forecast. It follows the impact of the recent storm Konrad, which struck the Canary Islands at the end of March and dramatically showed us how climate change is affecting our coasts. The heavy rains and, above all, the powerful waves brought swells of up to 8–12 meters in some areas, causing significant damage along the coastline. 🌀 ⛈️These extreme events not only destroy the environment but also pose a threat to human health. Dangerous waves, floods, and water pollution can cause direct physical harm, but they can also have long-term effects on the mental health of coastal communities. ⛈️ 🌊In this context, LIFE COSTAdapta works to mitigate these risks with an innovative, nature based solution: tidal pool reefs. This barrier not only protects the coast from erosion and reduces the impact of waves, but also contributes to the restoration of marine ecosystems, promoting biodiversity and improving water quality. 🌊 💙 Protecting our coasts not only preserves the environment but also ensures the physical and mental well-being of the people who depend on this environment to live. 💙 It counts with: 💧€3,409,864 (60% funded by the EU) 💧Duration of 7 years 💧Led by CABILDO DE GRAN CANARIA with participation from FINNOVA FOUNDATION, Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Universidad de Cantabria, Fundación para el Desarrollo Sostenible, Canarias Recicla ECOncrete, RALEY Estudios Costeros and Ingecid 👉 Follow us to learn more about how LIFE COSTAdapta is protecting our coasts! #WorldHealthDay #LIFECOSTAdapta #LIFEAmplifiers #EUGreenDeal #ClimateChange #Sustainability #GranCanaria #ReefTidalPools #Coasts #Tourism #Economy #CoastalAdaptation #CanaryIslands #Sea #CoastalErosion
