Cody Cook didn’t set out for a career in vegetation management. In 2007, he was building custom cabinets—spending too much time on the road and away from home. That’s when a close family friend at Lewis said, “Why don’t you come work with us?” That one conversation led to a 17-year (and counting) journey. Cody started as a groundman and worked his way up the hard way—through grit, long days in the field, and a commitment to safety and growth. Today, he’s a Supervisor in Division 30, overseeing utility contracts across North and South Carolina. “Lewis is like a family. Everyone—from your crew to corporate—has your back. We help each other. We grow together.” For Cody, it wasn’t just a job change. It was the start of something real. #LewisChoice #TeamLewis #LeadershipInAction #OpportunityStartsHere 📖 Read Cody’s full story: https://hubs.ly/Q03gDpQT0

Leadership in Action at the Aspen Institute! We’re proud to share that our CEO, Leslie Compton Kass, will be a featured panelist at The Aspen Institute Economic Opportunities Program Employee Ownership Ideas Forum in Washington, D.C., today. Leslie will join Dion Houchins, CEO and Chairman of Houchens Industries, Inc., for a powerful discussion on "The Ownership Advantage" — exploring how employee ownership strengthens companies, communities, and the economy. Leslie leads by example — equally at home wearing PPE in the field with our craftworkers as she is on stage wearing a microphone and talking with fellow executives. Her authentic, people-first approach is a driving force behind our culture and our continued growth. When Thomas Eastwood needed stability for his growing family, Lewis was there. He joined in 2016, bringing grit and heart to every job. After stepping away to explore a new opportunity, Thomas quickly realized what he had left behind—real support, safety, and a team that felt like family. “With Lewis, it’s not just about the paycheck—it’s about the next 10 years,” Thomas says. “I even took a pay cut to come back because I knew it was the right move for us.” Now back as a Lead Foreman, Thomas brings that same care and commitment to developing others—just like Lewis did for him. At work and at home, he leads with heart. 💚 “It’s a great day to have a great day.” #LewisChoice #TeamLewis #FamilyFirst #LeadershipInAction Read Thomas’s full story: https://hubs.ly/Q03f_CCl0

HAPPY VERNAL EQUINOX DAY (aka the FIRST DAY OF SPRING!)🌷🌞🌳📆 As we officially close the door on the winter of 2025 and welcome the first day of spring today, our experiences vary depending on where we are. In some places, trees are budding, flowers are breaking through the soil, and birds are filling the air with song - clear signs of nature’s renewal. Elsewhere, people may still be bundled up, waiting for the last traces of snow to melt and hoping for the return of milder temperatures. No matter where you are, the season brings a fresh start and an invitation to spend more time outdoors. With the arrival of longer days and daylight saving time, we have extra sunlight in the evening, making it easier to enjoy outdoor activities after work or school. But while spring brings excitement, it’s also a time to keep a #SafetyFirst mindset. As more people step outside - whether for a walk, a drive, or work on the roadside - it’s important to stay aware of seasonal risks to keep ourselves and our communities safe. Before you scratch that itch to get outside, take a moment to read the Springtime Safety tip sheet the Lewis team has prepared to help make your spring a safe and healthy one! https://hubs.ly/Q03cGHqN0

Choosing your first job at Lewis Services can open doors to many different opportunities for growth and advancement. Just ask Laura Barnard, the subject of this week's #LewisChoice story. Laura's interest in all-things-trees led her to a degree in forestry and over a dozen years working at a utility as a vegetation management analyst and a forester before coming to Lewis. Starting as a customer liaison with one of our divisions in the Northeast, Laura moved through a series of roles in Operations, quickly advancing into field leadership before making a jump to corporate headquarters. There she has set standards for high performance in multiple roles, including her latest stop as the Director of Bid Management for the company. How about a 'Feel Good Friday' story to end your week? On February 19th in Ghent, NY, 9°F temperatures, brutal winds, and treacherous ice covered the roads and driveways. Lewis Services OPC Eric Hoffman was out inspecting trees on New York State Electric & Gas power lines when he heard a faint cry for help. He paused, looked around - nothing. But then, he heard it again. Searching for the source, he spotted an elderly woman lying on her back in the middle of an icy driveway. She had slipped and fallen, unable to get up. Rushing to her side, Eric asked, "Are you okay?" She responded, but her voice was weak. Eric assessed the situation and realized that carrying her up the ice-covered steps could be even more dangerous. Knowing time was critical, he grabbed his phone from his truck and dialed 911. But Eric knew she needed warmth - immediately. Her lips were turning blue, an early sign of hypothermia setting in. He gently asked, "Can I go into your house and find blankets?" She gave him permission. He made his way inside. No blankets in sight. But draped over chairs were several winter coats and scarves. He grabbed everything he could carry and hurried back, wrapping her up as best he could to shield her from the cold. For nearly 20 minutes, Eric stayed by her side, keeping her talking, holding onto her to provide warmth, and making sure she knew help was coming. Finally, flashing lights appeared down the road. Paramedics arrived just in time. She insisted she’d be fine if they just helped her inside - but the EMTs saw what Eric had seen: she needed immediate medical attention. They confirmed she was showing signs of hypothermia and took her to safety. And Eric went back to work. This story is a powerful reminder of how dangerous winter conditions can be, especially for those living alone. It also speaks to the situational awareness, compassion, and quick thinking that Lewis workers like Eric bring to their work every single day. Job Done Right, Eric. #HeroicAction #WinterSafety #SafetyFirst #VegetationManagement #HypothermiaAwareness #Utilities #JobDoneRight
