What does the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (PWFA) mean for working mothers, and why does it matter? Our CEO, Vanessa Jupe, discusses how this legislation aligns with our company’s deep-rooted commitment to supporting pregnant women and fostering workplace equity. #PWFA #PregnancyRights #WorkingMothers #HR #EmploymentLaw
What does it mean to be pregnant in America? It means: You might keep working on your feet for hours because your employer doesn’t have to give you a chair. You could risk dehydration or infection because someone says you’re taking “too many” bathroom breaks. You might be denied time off for prenatal appointments or fear being seen as “less committed” if you ask. You may still carry the weight of providing for your family while being penalized for simply growing it. The Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (PWFA) was passed in 2022 with bipartisan support to change that. It guarantees basic accommodations for pregnant and postpartum workers: water breaks, flexible schedules, modified tasks. No one should have to choose between their job and their health! But now, some politicians are trying to quietly block it. House Republicans have introduced riders to prevent the EEOC from finalizing rules that ensure the law is followed. This law isn’t radical. It’s reasonable. 70% of women who gave birth in the last 12 months are working, and most return within a year. At Leva, we’re building a future where pregnancy is supported, not punished and where maternal health is a workplace priority, not an afterthought. If you share our values, let's work together to put your people first. #PWFA #PregnancyRights #MaternalHealth #WorkplaceEquity #FairnessAtWork #Leva #WorkingMoms #HumanRights
