Children navigate social situations better through positive interactions with adults from birth. Research shows that early conversational turns literally predict how children grow socially and emotionally. They influence: 💗Emotional regulation 💗Attachment relationships 💗Communication skills 💗Social competencies And these benefits are still evident in children when they're older. Which means confident learners grow from lots of positive serve and return conversations with educators, parents, family members, and other caregivers! Some lovely ladies from our LENA team had a wonderful time at the Florida Capitol for Children's Week! Children's Week is a unique event that celebrates and honors its commitment to children, youth, and advocates. Between the hanging of the hands, the advocacy dinner, and the great conversations our team had, this event was definitely memorable! Thank you, Children's Week, for hosting this amazing event! Four numbers that might surprise you about building confidence in children birth to five: 5️⃣ - The seconds it takes for a serve-and-return interaction to strengthen neural connections 1️⃣8️⃣ - The age in months when conversational turns begin predicting future social skills and emotional wellbeing 4️⃣0️⃣ - The optimal number of conversational turns per hour for building confident learners And the most important number? 1. That's how many caring adults it takes to transform a child's trajectory. Every conversation, every call, every voice...they count!
NAEYC is deeply concerned about recent reports that the Administration's FY26 budget proposal could call for the elimination of Head Start. The decisions Congress makes in its own annual appropriations process will determine the fate of programs like Head Start, which is why it is so crucial that your elected representatives hear from you about why they should invest in, not cut Head Start. Please take a few minutes today to call your Members of Congress and tell them how important this program is for children and families in your community! Take Action: https://lnkd.in/gyENrAzq

Language isolation is when a child has few or no interactions with an adult caregiver throughout their day. One in five children spends their day in language isolation. And it's not usually on purpose! We've found that educators and caregivers often don't even realize that a child is isolated from language until they see the data provided through one of our programs. Children in language isolation often struggle with low self-esteem, managing their emotions, anxiety, and depression. It also impacts their overall learning ability, language development, and quality of life! Good news? LENA research shows through one study that 58.5% of children who were initially in language isolation moved out of that state through participation in LENA Grow. It truly takes a village! 💫 If you noticed, Week of the Young Child and National Library Week overlap! And closing out #WOYC25 is Family Friday. So, we want to advocate for and celebrate ALL the caregivers who nurture young minds. Both at home and in our communities. Libraries have long been partners in caregiving - offering a welcoming space where families find resources, where children build confidence through stories, and where communities come together to support early learning. Today, let's celebrate the entire circle of care that surrounds our youngest learners. Tag your favorite librarian, teacher, or child care provider! #NationalLibraryWeek #FamilyFriday

We agree, Patricia! It's so important for children to feel like learning is fun. And they do that through the guidance and positive interactions of their #teachers, caregivers, and families. How does Patricia keep it fun? She pretends to be a sportscaster throughout the day! And the children in her care LOVE it. Patricia is one of our LENA Grow partners and really saw the impact the program had on her children. They have more confidence. They talk more. And her relationship with them grew. All of which contributes to...you guessed it! #EarlyLiteracyDevelopment Want to download the free conversation cards Patricia is talking about?
