We are proud to join Organizations of Persons with Disabilities, advocates, governments, and other partners at the Global Disability Summit. The Summit brings together global leaders to make commitments and share lessons to uphold the rights of persons with disabilities. At the Inclusive Education Hub, Dr. Ludmila Malcoci, PHD habilitate, Professor said, “Positive policies and practices, parent advocacy, community involvement, and collaboration between the education, health, and social sectors contribute to better inclusive education for children with disabilities.” Together we can build a better world where all people belong and fully participate. #GlobalDisabilitySummit #GDS2025 International Disability Alliance

About us
Keystone Human Services is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing the human spirit of all people. Since 1972, we have worked to promoting inclusion, creating opportunities for children and adults with disabilities to fully participate in their communities and fully enjoy their human rights. We provide community-based services to children and adults with autism, individuals with intellectual disabilities, and adults experiencing mental illness. Our programs also include early intervention, Capital Area Head Start, and Susquehanna Service Dogs. Although we’re based in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, we serve children, adults, and families throughout Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey, and Connecticut, as well as Moldova and India.

Each year, staff have the opportunity to nominate co-workers who exemplify the Capital Area Head Start Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) motto of "Take care of yourself. Take care of your friends. Take care of your home and school." Silver Bucket winners demonstrate how they take care of themselves, their co-workers, the children and families that we serve, and their workplace. This year's winners are: Vicki Cleveland, Education Program Specialist, Banks St Sharicka Peters, Educational Coach, Early Head Start Dan Hollingsworth, Facilities Specialist. ⭐ Staff know they can come to Vicki for guidance and advice. She listens to their needs and is always willing to accommodate as long as it does not jeopardize the needs of the center. She is not afraid to lead firmly with sensitivity and privacy in order to enforce and reinforce expectations. She does a wonderful job to walk that balance with grace. ⭐ Sharicka is a person who always helps her co-workers solve their problems and is known to be a force of nature. Her big personality, larger than life smile, and even bigger heart show each day as she works with the Early Head Start staff. She truly invests in each team member she coaches and is the team’s most fervent cheerleader. ⭐ Dan takes care of the children, staff, and schools. He will engage and play with children whenever he is at a site. He has gone into classrooms to support staff who need a break. He comes to the rescue to fix a gate, broken pipe, faucet, remove toys from toilets, and more. He is a phone call or text away and is devoted to CAHS and its mission. Congratulations! ⭐ 🌟 🌠

What does independence look like? Sometimes it looks like cooking your favorite meal for yourself. Having those skills and the choice to choose your own dinner can make a big difference in someone’s life. Marissa has perfected her favorite dish, shrimp alfredo, even putting her own spin on it. “I actually put a little cheese in it,” she says. Victory Akande, a ID Program Coordinator working in Delaware, has supported her in widening her culinary skills, first taking on a role closer to teacher and now stepping back into more of a mentor role in the kitchen. “When she chefs it up, I’m just like ‘Oh, you go, girl.’”

One in five women has a disability, comprising 20% of all women. As they navigate an inaccessible and exclusionary world, the barriers they face are disproportionate. In data provided by UN Women, women with disabilities are at least two to three times more likely than other women to experience violence. Compared to men without disabilities, women with disabilities are three times more likely to be illiterate and two times less likely to be employed. This International Women’s Day #IWD2025, join us in highlighting the leadership of women with disabilities, as we speak to two young women whose work has paved the way for others. Vibhu Sharma made history as the first blind person to independently write the CBSE board exams (India’s equivalent of a high school diploma examination) using a screen reader. Currently serving as Capacity Building Manager at Keystone Human Services India Association, Vibhu has been instrumental in shaping policies and initiatives that foster a more inclusive society. Arushi Singh is a passionate disability rights advocate who has taken legal strides to create a more accessible world. She filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court of India to improve air travel for persons with disabilities, challenging systemic barriers and advocating for equal rights. Currently, Arushi is a faculty member at OP Jindal University in India https://lnkd.in/ecQ8JrJ9 Data source: https://lnkd.in/dK-Hbe9M
